Litigation in the Social Media Age

In the era of Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, it did not take long for the trend to display every aspect of one's personal life to begin impacting litigation.  Defense lawyers, primarily in personal injury and employment discrimination cases, are asking for, and courts are granting, permission to obtain both public and private online social media content.

I have had clients in my own cases asked for information regarding their screen names and on which sites…

High Speed Rail: Who's behind the curtain on this Spending Spree? CALL TO ACTION!

President Obama and our very own Rep. John Mica are touting federal dollars to assist Florida in bringing High Speed Rail to our sandy shores.

Issue:  Federal dollars are OUR dollars.  The Federal government does not make money – they take ours in from tax dollars.  We do not want to use our tax dollars we send to the Federal government to be sent back to Florida to pay for High Speed Rail.  Something smells fishy here.  Who’s behind the curtain of the High Speed…

Taped call to legislative staffer leads to raid on couple’s home

Jasper — State law enforcement officers on Jan. 14 raided the home of a Jasper man they say illegally taped a phone conversation with a state legislative aide.

At 7:30 a.m. more than a dozen officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, along with two Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies, arrived at the home of Bob Burton and his wife Kathy Scott to serve a search warrant. No arrests were made at the 7676 S.W. 46 Ave. residence in Jasper. Seized, however, were a Sony… Continue

The American Spectator: Texas Tea

Have to watch as new people of interest start announcing they will be running in 2012.   Michael Williams is a conservative and has also spoken at tea parties.  He has an admirable backgroud as well and is apparently pretty well known both in his state and in DC!  Here's hoping many more will step forward to run for both the congress and the senate.

Well worth…

U.S. News: Obama's State of the Union Was Tantamount to Plagiarism

U. S. News did their homework and found that most of the SOTU speech was "borrowed" from a number of other people.  As the article states:  "If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, what can be said of plagiarism? President Obama’s second SOTU contained enough recycled ideas and lines lifted from speeches of others to make historians wince".   Very well put together article with links to polls or other related information.

I found…

Times Union: Jacksonville officials: Nonprofit didn’t pay building contractor costs

Riverside Avondale Development filed paperwork with the city indicating they had paid the bills from contractors, and they hadn't paid them.  The city has now released funds for one of the bills and is researching the other bill to pay as well.  They will be going back on the development, but in the mean time the taxpayers of Jacksonville on the hook for the cost of this.…

Times Union: Florida lawmakers turning toward pension plan cuts

Because our state, like the city, will be dealing with a rather large short fall in revenue, our state is now seriously looking to fix pension plans that have been approved in the past.  All of the folks that sat with unions and agreed to these unreal contracts basically knew they would never have to deal with the problems when they finally hit, so they kicked the can down the street to some unknown governor.  The process has begun at any rate, and this article details the…

Times Union: Mullaney, Moran spar at county GOP meeting

It was, I thought, a very interesting forum and as indicated somewhat heated.  I would say, the Times Union has left out that Mr. Mullaney was not involved in the union contract negotiations in spite of the fact Ms Moran keeps insisting he was (and apparently has made the statement to other groups as well), and Mr. Mullaney indicated which law firm was involved in the negotiations.  Apparently their is a feud going on…

Times Union: Jacksonville police union boss: John Peyton hiding money for 'secret projects'

Totally sad that this is going this way.  I can't say I have much faith in Peyton these days (not that I really ever did), but this debacle with the police unions is a real nightmare with Mr. Cuba making some really over the top accusations.

Article well worth the read and can be found…

My Own Response to the SOTU

from my blog at http://theatleeappeal.com/

We are the nation that put cars in driveways and computers in offices; the nation of Edison and the Wright brothers; of Google and Facebook” – Which I guess is why he is trying to get everyone to stop using Edison’s light bulb and go for the mercury laced fluorescent light bulb while making a huge push for everyone to drive batteries instead of combustion engine…

Politico: Rep. David Rivera facing ethics issues

Sadly, one of our newly elected representatives from Florida, Dave Rivera, is in trouble over failing to disclose a loan made by a company his Mother owned.  We will have to watch this closely and it is currently being investigated by Florida officials.  If it can be proven, it may mean Mr. Rivera…

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
