ACTION ITEM: AMERICAN LAWS FOR AMERICAN COURTS!

SENATORS ON SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE MUST
HEAR THE STRONG SUPPORT FOR
AMERICAN LAWS FOR AMERICAN COURTS!

Senator Alan Hays recently introduced SB386, the Florida Senate’s American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) bill.

SB386 is common-sense legislation that protects Floridians’ individual, fundamental constitutional rights from foreign laws or legal doctrines where the application of those laws/doctrines would violate those constitutional rights. No particular foreign law is singled out. The proposal applies to them all.

It’s that simple.

At this stage, it is up to the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee whether SB386 progresses to the floor of the Senate. We need to be sure that the members of the Committee understand the strong level of support across Florida for this bill!

Contact by you, a constituent, will be the best chance to see that this important bill passes in the Senate Judiciary Committee and ultimately becomes law. It just takes a moment of your time, but when your actions are joined together with the actions of thousands of other voters in Florida, it makes quite a roar.

Please respectfully relay the following sentiments in your own words in a phone call and e-mail:
Dear Senator,

I urge you to support SB386, the Florida Senate’s American Laws for American Courts bill. This important piece of legislation was introduced by Senator Alan Hays and has already passed in Tennessee, Louisiana, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, Alabama and North Carolina.

Further, I ask that you do what you can to move this bill through the legislative process and to the Senate floor for a vote.

SB386 is tremendously important to all Florida citizens, as it protects their constitutional rights from the incursion of foreign laws and foreign legal doctrines, if those laws infringe upon their state or federal fundamental constitutional rights.

No individual foreign law is singled out.

We must maintain the authority of the Florida and U.S. Constitutions.

As a resident of Florida and as a voter, this bill is of the utmost importance to me!

Thank you again for your leadership on this vital matter.

Sincerely,

(Your name and city)

Thank you for your help in seeing this bill pass in Florida, so that your state can join the others that now have ALAC laws on the books!
REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS!
IF EACH OF US DOES JUST A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN
ACCOMPLISH A LOT!

This information was received from ACT for AMERICA

Thank you for your continued support..

God Bless You and May God Bless Our America

This legislation, commonly known as “American Laws for American Courts”, would prohibit Florida courts from considering certain provisions of foreign laws, including Islamic Sharia law, if such provisions are inconsistent with the Florida and United States of America Constitutions.

If Florida courts accept provisions of Islamic Sharia law or other foreign laws or legal codes which are inconsistent with American laws it will undermine public policies enacted by our representative form of government and change our value system.

Application of Foreign Law in Certain Cases: Defines "foreign law, legal code, or system"; specifies public policy on application of foreign law, legal code, or system in proceedings relating to dissolution of marriage, support, time-sharing, UCCJEA, & UIFSA; provides that certain decisions rendered under such laws, codes, or systems are void; provides that certain contracts & contract provisions are void; provides for construction of waiver by natural person of person's fundamental liberties, rights, & privileges guaranteed by state or federal constitutions; provides that claims of forum non conveniens or related claims must be denied; provides that act doesn't require or authorize court to adjudicate, or prohibit any religious organization from adjudicating, ecclesiastical matters in violation of specified constitutional provisions or to conflict with any federal treaty or other international agreement to which U.S. is party to specified extent.  Full text of SB 386.

The next Senate committee to review SB 386 is the Committee on Governmental Oversight and Accountability.  The Florida House companion bill HB 903 was approved by the Florida House Civil Justice Subcommittee on March 18, 2014.  HB 903 is waiting to be scheduled in the House Judiciary Committee.  Florida Family Association will send out email alerts as soon as this legislation is scheduled by another committee in either chambers.

just called Clelland's office. Said 903 has to do with family law and foreign divorce and marriages being honored in FL. Hmmm not sure if that's true. She bill written in legalese is actually the reverse of what the bill reads. ???????

email mary.cowart@myfloridahouse.gov and ask WHY Rep Cynthia  Stafford voted 'no' and why she violated her sworn oath?

Comment by Kate Svagdis on March 19, 2014 at 12:33pm

We need to oust the 4 no votes. They are insane. They swore an oath to support the Constitution yet want to violate it.
