Confused Media: Multiple Tax Bills, Net Neutrality, and Food Safety

Three Tax Bills first

During this lame duck session it has been rather hard to keep up with the legislation, especially the "Tax Bills".  Even the media was confused.  So I called Senator Stearns local office for some clarification.

There are three bills that the media is referring to as tax bills.  (1) the Omnibus which was Defeated and was created by the Democrats in objection to # 3), (2) the CR which the Republicans are currently trying to get passed, and (3) the following (this bill was passed and was what originally was negotiated between Obama and the Republicans).  It is explained by a letter from Congressman Cliff Stearns in the following PDF:

Note: even after January Republicans will not have over 2/3 in the house or senate to over ride a presidential veto.

Net Neutrality (Internet Control)

This bill was defeated. However, the FCC has decided to proceed anyway starting this month.  Congressman Stearns has been elected to a committee (not starting until January) to oversee the FCC, and at that time he will inform the FCC they do not have the authority to proceed, and to do so is illegal.

Here is a website that will allow you to sign a petition to stop net neutrality...free

The "Food Safety Act"..a nice sounding name to disguise more big government power grabs.

Harry Reid originated this in the Senate, and these bills are suppose to come from the Congress...not the Senate. It passed the Senate with a unanimous vote. Old Harry did this to force something to happen in the lame duck session.

So, it is now in Congress where they can kill it, accept it as is, or rewrite it. If enacted on it will go back to the Senate since that is the proper procedure.  It is important to contact your Congressman, and ask them to stop this bill...especially in the lame duck session.

Dream Act

Thanks to your calls, this bill was defeated, but it was far closer to passing than anticipated.  If you want more info on this click HERE This link tells you who voted yes, and who voted know.  I bet you can guess how Nelson voted.
