Mayor Curry and all on City Council are appalled at the conditions at Eureka Gardens. However, Eureka is a Federal housing project, and I sure hope City Council does not spend one penny of our taxes to fix the situation. The owner, the manager and the inspector should handle the repairs and then go jail and pay fines, PERIOD. As to the residents of Eureka, they should not complain. They are paying very little to NOTHING for their housing. Have they tried to do any repairs themselves? How long have they been there collecting welfare and food stamps? Where is the husband of the woman with 4 children?  Do they have a job?

In my opinion, no one deserves any better than what they pay for with their work and dedication. I am tired of the pandering politicians, Democrats and Republicans alike, giving free stuff to the "POOR". Well, when my parents came here from communist Cuba, they WERE POOR TOO, but within 3 years they worked hard, saved their money and became home owners just like any other American. They were tax payers till they died just like most Americans.

Eureka Garden residents had a chance to go to school in Duval County just like everyone else. It was their choices that created their current living conditions. YOU SHALL REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
