I carry a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in my pocket everyday. Every legislator must weigh each decision on these two documents. After all, their oath of office states that they will “swear (or affirm) to support and defend the Constitution... and bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” Too many decisions are being made with regard to the next election or to special interest groups. Although the ink on the Constitution is faded, its power and authority must never fade. For the past two decades I have lived under a similar oath to that of the legislators, but prepared to defend those documents with my very life. Now during these desperate times, I can do no less.
