Mayor Alvin Brown has seemed happy to say he won't let taxpayer money be lavished on outfitting the seventh-floor hearing rooms, where judges argue the mayor's plan to use furniture from the 1950s-vintage courthouse on Bay Street is utterly impractical.
"It may be in the budget, but I'm not spending $5,000 for a desk," he told the Times-Union's editorial board last month when he talked about plans the city drew up years earlier to outfit the new building. "It's just, I can't justify that."

Judges have responded that there are 37 hearing rooms that need to be furnished, and they can outfit maybe three with furniture from Bay Street.
