TU: Jacksonville council members want taxpayers to give them free parking

Our fine city council has now become fearful of the folks they represent apparently, and think the taxpayers should pick up the parking tab for them, so they don't have to deal with anyone on the street who might say something to them they don't feel they should have to listen to.  This sounds awfully like Ms. Lee who claims she was dressed down over in Hemming Plaza and now wants them to renovate to eliminate any chance of that happening again to the tune of $100,000 also paid for by the taxpayers with money the city does not have.  Also note the statement made by Councilman Brown (highlighted and underlined below).  Perhaps if they didn't keep doing things that angered voters and taxpayers of our fair city, they would not have to deal with angry voters.  I further suggest, since these folks make a fair amount of money for the part time job (which in honesty is really far more than part time), they get their own monthly parking place where ever it is they think they will feel safe from angry tax payers and pay the $85.00 that other council members are already paying.  You may wish to weigh in on this, and nice that they are aware of how expensive it is to park downtown..............it certainly keeps a number of people away from the downtown!

Two members of Jacksonville’s City Council want to use taxpayer money to  subsidize parking inside City Hall for council members.

Council President Stephen Joost filed legislation (2012-202) that will be  introduced Tuesday, and has picked up a co-sponsorship from Johnny Gaffney.

If enough members approve it, and if it’s continued into the next budget  year, the cost would be about $18,000 annually.

Some council members, who are paid $44,100 annually, already lease spaces  inside the building for about $85 a month. Others park on the street but say  they are running risks by being public servants and they deserve free  parking.

“We should be able to get in and out of our cars without having to interact” with an angry voter, Councilman Reggie Brown said. “I should not have to pay for  safety.”

Gaffney cited danger to council members as his reason for supporting the  bill.

“I just think with the proliferation of violence we’re having around the  country, particularly against public figures, it’s more about safety,” he  said.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
