The 2011 budget was the responsibility of the Democrat controlled Congress. There was no Republican filibuster, they had the votes to pass anything they wanted. Their Omnibus Bill, which was proposed in December 2010 was so pork laden that their own party would not vote for it and it failed. There has been no Presidential leadership just political posturing, he assigned Joe Biden to the task of brokering a deal, one meeting and then Biden flees the country for two weeks. Nothing but talking points from the Democrats, Chuck Schumer caught on tape revealing the “call them extremists” and say “the Devil (TEA PARTY) made the Republicans do it, yet they take us for fools, by continuing to babble the very same talking points. Shut it down, the only extremist view is that of the President, a continuing resolution to fund our troops is a distraction, that’s extreme.  I am sorry for anyone who has to experience an interruption in pay, but just maybe a short interruption in pay will help them realize that “We the People” are not a bottomless pit of cash.

Sometimes you have to stand up and endure the hard stuff to keep the bullies at bay. We need to stand for what is right and stop tax payer money from going towards imoral things like abortions. I am willing to endure what is needed to stop it. I just hope the military and their families don't end up suffering for it. I heard the essential stuff is funded... I don't know how much more essential you could get.

Well, I think it's a SHAME that the law makers still get paid and American families will suffer by not getting pay checks,etc. Congress should NOT get paid and then their may be more incentive to work together.  SHUT THE GOVERMENT DOWN!!!

let the government shut down forever, they don't represent me or anyone but themselves. their are in business to line their own pockets along with the lobbyists. close down the war we can't afford war ..our own are starving..doesn't anyone care about our own americans? chuck milton

We are dealing with bullies.

Bullies are loud.

Bullies are obnoxious.

Bullys are pushy.

Bullies are liars.

Bullies use intimidation to get their way.

Bullies look for weakness.

Bullies always push the limits.

Bullies always step over the line.

 

They have to be confronted.

They have to be pushed back with truth and resolve.

They have to know the limits and the consequences for trespassing those limits.

They have to be held accountable for their actions.

 

YOU DO NOT NEGOCIATE WITH A BULLY. YOU STAND UP TO THEM.

RE: Cut It Or Shut It! No "Compromise" ... No "Negotiations" ... The Government Is Out Of Control!

Mr. Boehner; the American people did not hand your party the majority in the House of Representatives in November to play "nice-nice" with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The American people did not instruct you to "go along to get along" and the American people most certainly didn't thrust you into your present position of leadership to conduct "business-as-usual." Your task was simple; stop ObamaCare and our government's out-of-control spending.

Harry Reid, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have instituted failed policies which have pushed this country to the brink of disaster. Seeking "compromise" with those who are dead-set on promoting a twisted agenda that is crippling this great country is not a "negotiation" ... it's "extortion" and the American people's demands for fiscal sanity are not "extreme," they're common sense. The Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda is a FAILURE and your were NOT given the Speaker's gavel to put a GOP stamp on their failed policies.

The negotiations stop today. Congressman Mike Pence said it best: "If liberals in the Senate would rather play political games and shut down the government instead of making a small down payment on fiscal discipline and reform, I say shut it down." Heed those words and live by them Mr. Boehner. The American people made a simply demand in November; de-fund ObamaCare and restore fiscal sanity to Washington. Either make it happen or get out of the way in favor of someone who will keep the promise!

We should stand firm. We have to start now to take care of the deficit. If the government shuts down, we need to make sure our military gets paid and not the politicians.

Goodness, i agree with all here, i have been emailing and writing for the past two weeks. 

I am fed up with hearing disingenuous statements and out and lies from President Obama, Reid and Pelosi on all of this. Reid's speech today was pathetic, it is clear he is very arrogant, incompetent, drunk with POWER, and he is just concerned about votes and POWER. The man lives in a Ritz Carlton condo in D.C., and is claiming that he did not want title 10 (Planned Parenthood), defunded because then he would worry about his wife, his three daughters and nine grandchildren would not get the annual screening like they should. He is nuts. We are paying him a salary of $193,000.00 plus a year, his benefits and a great health care plan. His net worth was reported back in 2007 to be at $6,700,000.00 million plus dollar over four years ago. And he made that sad speech about protecting his wife, daughters, grandchildren (i guess they do not have husbands or fathers?).

I think most Americans are fed up with the lies, manipulation of words and our government. This whole shut down would have been avoided IF the President, Reid and Pelosi has passed a budget bill by Sept 2010. They choose not to because they were scared of loosing votes and POWER in November 2010. They did the same thing with delaying the extension of the Bush taxes until the last minute in Dec 2010, and Congress had 10 years to think about that extension. 

 

The Democratic Congress and President are all showing a FAILURE to lead, a FAILURE to support and defend our U.S. Constitution and it is very unconscionable that the Commander in Chief would FAIL in his leadership to allow this to happen to the very people who are OUT in the theatre of WAR laying their very lives on the line for ALL Americans freedoms, liberties and the support and defense of our U.S. Constitution upholding the very oath that they took and our President and Democratic Congress have the nerve to let it get to this point and they have shredded our U.S. Constitution in all that they say and do, while breaking their oath of office daily while serving in the peoples' seats. That is unconscionable.

 

Americans are fed up with the out of control spending, disregard and disrespect shown the American people and our U.S. Constitution. The GOP has passed bills and C.R.s to protect our military and other gov't. employees but the press is not reporting those facts (3 or 4 budget bills were passed by the House this year with 7 or 8 C.R.s and the Balance the Budget Amendment.)

The press is not reporting what really is happening they are reporting the theatrics of the Democratic party when the blame clearly rests on the FAILED leadership of Obama,Pelosi and Reid for their failure to pass a budget in 2010. IF Democrats cared enough about the American people they would of passed a budget long time ago, last year. This is pure manipulative politics, period by the left.

Americans want TRUTH, FACTS and HONOR. The CIA has a motto above their front door of their department:

"AND YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE"   

 

A federal government shut-down will be clearly the fault of Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the Democratic party for not doing the peoples' business in a honest, open and timely way.

 

Now Reid is blaming the riders on the budget bill as the problem that will bring down our country. That is a blatant lie, the riders are to rein in the out of control non-essential spending.

I could say more but it would not be nice nor would you want to repeat in a tv interview.

I think the government should be allowed to shut down, but have become very discouraged by all of the deliberate disinformation. The corrupt and incompetent will continue to try to discredit people like us. It is we who have to stand firm. The republicans can't say they're not partly to blame for the financial crisis at hand. Keep up the good work, and stick to the principles. We might just make a difference.
