N.C. high schools to replace U.S. History with environmental issues

North Carolina public high schools are trying to erase all early U.S. history from the curriculum, ranging from the Founding Fathers to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War...in exchange for things like environmental issues. This kind of blatant propagandistic slant has become routine in public schools (see here and here).

Even though many Americans are increasingly convinced that we need to be embracing the Founding principles now more than ever, the far left teachers' unions driving this latest attempt to accommodate mediocrity disagree. They insist that lowering educational standards even further to such completely dysfunctional levels will somehow enable public school students to gain a more in-depth understanding of current events.

Rebecca Garland, the chief academic officer for North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, explained the decision this way:

"What we are trying to do is figure out a way to teach it where students are connected to it, where they see the big idea, where they are able to make connections and draw relationships between parts of our history and the present day."

In other words, the left-wing teachers' unions running our public school systems (into the ground) have dumbed down education so far at this point that they now must sacrifice everything about who we are, what we stand for and how we got here in order for their victims to graduate. This is what happens when you put Democrat power (forced union dues) before the interests of the people and care more about manufacturing racially-sensitive little environmentalists than actual education.

It is more difficult to notice how fundamentally un-American the left's Constitution-trampling agenda is when no one is even talking about the Founding era anymore.

There is an amazing expose on public education that was written 10-15 years ago called "Onto the Yellow School Bus and Through the Gates of Hell" by Mary Hood. She investigates the founding of public education in the US and the reality that public education was brought about by wealthy industrialists at the turn of the last century who needed to create a compliant workforce. The whole concept of public education provided by the government is to have a like-minded populous. My suggestion is that truly liberty-minded folks take education into their own hands, either through private schools, online curriculum (very carefully selected), umbrella schools or homeschool. It is a huge commitment and sacrifice, but well worth the cost.
An interesting link to a speech made by John T Gatto--former teacher of the year who has renounced government schooling. http://4brevard.com/choice/Public_Education.htm
I agree with the home schooling if folks can do it. I have a good friend up in Charleston who home schooled her granddaughter, and it was absolutely amazing how far ahead of the public schools this young woman was (taking college level courses way ahead of anything anyone else in public school was doing and so much younger than her college classmates and better prepared to boot. And I have heard of other children who have benefited equally from the home schooling experience and would wonder more parents don't choose this option. The friend in SC (her granddaughter is post college at this point) now takes in groups of home school children for English classes (which relieves the parents of that course, so there are creative ways to do these things!) and he husband who is a college math professor does math. I don't know how Florida is, but I can tell you they have an awesome network of/for home schoolers in SC.
I have four children, two of whom are now in college. Our daughter was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship to Queens University of Charlotte, and is currently studying abroad. I was privileged to home school both of these two for a total of five years each. Our younger two are in 10th and 8th grade, and go to a private Christian school. I would be thrilled to teach them at home (they both home schooled a couple years each) although they are very involved in sports. There are enormous support systems available if a person chooses that route--from just local teaching co-ops to alternate school delivery programs in which there is a teacher, class room of kids, curriculum, grading, instruction, etc just with the children scattered all around the world. The cost of each of these methods of education has a low and a high and can be done very inexpensively, or for lots of money. We just need to know we have CHOICE--even if you are a single working mom, there are CHOICES. Just like on all the other issues we are frustrated with, education is another one. We do not have to accept the education our government, in their infinite wisdom, has deemed good and spoon feed it to our kids. It all boils down to liberty-choices-freedom.

Teachers are currently the biggest influx into the school market, and here is an article that tells you the reasons:

Thinking About Homeschooling? Teachers Are
What a great resource that web site is for people with children who are unhappy with the school system. I don't have children, but I got an education in the public school system before the federal government moved in on it and made a mess of it. One has only to look at what these politicians do to everything to know they should not ever have been allowed to interfer with the education of the children in this country. Right now, they are using it for everything but education!

Right now, we are attempting to put out campfires when the whole forest that sustains us is burning. You may not smell smoke, but as an educator, I do. Many of the Textbooks, across America not only attempt to breeze over our true history, but also promote Islam as this beacon of hope. Please be aware of the following: Islam is NOT a religion-it is a political, social and economic ideology covered, like a coat, in Religion. Their book for life demands that anyone who is not of like mind, to be exterminated and they must succeed in their agenda, at all costs-this includes temporarily folding into that society, slowly morphing our society into what their doctrine dictates, all unnoticed. The infrastructure is here: Shariah Law is in our Government, as we well know. Its also in our courts, our businesses, finances and now education. The textbooks do not "talk about" Islam as they claim. It is written as if Islam is fact, law and doctrine and compares all other religions, economies and social lifestyles as either theory or faulty. There is absolutely no room for our Republic once this ideology is accepted by 10% of the population. One Canadian article predicted that all of America will be Shariah Compliant by 2020. This is very serious and needs to be brought out. They didn't stop at textbooks-this backdoor propaganda is also in other forms of educational media. We cannot afford to play "politically correct" games and be wrong. What you are hearing in the news is but just barely scratching the surface. These organizations have the ears of our administration and many congressmen. It has been established that our current lawmakers are willing to sell their soul for money-do you think they would even blink at selling out our country? If you want to know from what I base my statements on, let me know.
Schools face big budget holes as stimulus runs out

In Florida, public schools are being squeezed by state budget cuts and an unexpected increase in student enrollment, including an influx of Haitian students in the aftermath of Haiti's devastating earthquake.

Districts have been coping by closing schools during breaks, cutting energy costs and changing transportation routes, but the next round of cuts is expected to hit classrooms.

"We're at a point now where you just can't stretch that rubber band any further," said Bill Montford, CEO of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.

It is interesting. Through my travels in this arena, I have met numerous teachers who have opted out of teaching in the school system, and are teaching their own children at home, and in co-ops and umbrella schools. Thanks for sharing this article!

Wow, Carla. I've heard rumblings of this type of thing, but since I'm not an educator do not have a first-hand knowledge of the situation. Are you experiencing this now? I would love to see that Canadian article--that is really shocking!

Actually Carla, what you are indicating is a pesky little thing called "treason", and let us hope we are able to, at some point in the very near future, hold all of these folks accountable for their acts.
This is what I'm hearing about and dealing with through my coalition work in the Duval community. We have a huge budget deficit in the upcoming year. The DCPS has already made the cuts listed below (reducing transportation options, watching and monitoring power usage, reducing some sports, arts & other programs, etc). The next round will be unbelievable. I don't really think the solutions lie in DC, Tallahassee or even Duval Co School Board/DCPS...I think they lie with us. We need to involve the parents around our community to create an entirely new vision and paradigm for how our kids get educated.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
