This is still a little confusing, but I think they are saying if the state recognizes gay marriage, then, the federal government can't do the opposite and DOMA forced the federal government to treat gay marriages differently than those between a man and a woman when the state the couple resided in did not......................hopefully, someone will come up with a clear opinion on what it all means.  I thought Scalia made some very thoughtful…
