$3 million dollar fence on SR 17 in Orange Park
Just read about the Florida DOT putting out a contract to build a $2.1 million fence (perimeter wall) with landscaping along SR-17/Park Avenue in Orange Park (2000' on each side from Holly Point Road East going North, 8' high).
Seems like another big tax-wasting boondoggle right here in our own backyard. Not sure who requested it or what political friends they have, but it's a waste. And the city will be responsible for the upkeep for years to come. It's not for noise abatement, it's just because someone wants it?? Just called DOT in Lake City and they are just putting out bid requests next week.
If we can't stop the waste in our own area how can we make a difference on the state and federal budgets?

These things make me sick. You don't buy a house near a train track or airport and then complain about the noise. They claim that the ones in Duval county along I95 are because of the unsightly neighborhoods along the interstate. That they are an eye sore. oh really? Then why on earth would you build a land fill next to I295? Besides being an eye sore its a nose sore. Somebody is definately getting their backs scratched with these damn fence projects and they are being scratched with our money.

Really. Several squeaky wheels and several companies that want the money, but no one speaks up for the taxpayers. In the case of SR17 they are even planning on cutting down some large mature oak trees to put in the wall (and then spend money to plant some scrawny plants)! We definitely need someone in government to speak for the taxpayer (and our children and grandchildren), not just for the loud minorities and commercial entities...

We'll never be able to fix our federal deficit and spending issues if we can't do it in our own back yards. Hopefully this one will get turned off when the Town of Orange Park realizes that they will have to pay for the landscaping upkeep for decades after it is put in...

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening!
