ACTION ALERT: RED LIGHT CAMERAS

WHEN/WHAT:

On Tuesday March 24 at 1:00 PM, the House Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee will hear HB 7071. The bill has already passed the first committee and only has one more, Economic Affairs, after this one. Note that while camera users deny cameras are about money, both committees hearing this bill have "economic" in their title.

This bill deals with red light cameras and imposes needed minor reforms, such as a ban on automated right on red enforcement, requiring fine money be used for traffic safety, and penalizing local users that do not report data. There are other good provisions as well such as the DOT being allowed to test the cameras. While an outright ban would be preferred, these reforms will restrict abuse by and impose accountability on camera users that has been absent in the past.

ACTION NEEDED:

Please contact the below committee members and ask them to pass this bill.

Talking points:

1) The bill does not prohibit police officers from ticketing right on red violations. Slow-rolling right on red violations are the least hazardous ones, and camera users have failed to adopt common sense automated enforcement policies such as pedestrians being in danger.

2) It is common sense to use traffic fines for traffic safety improvements.

3) Each year since 2012 a number of camera users have failed to submit crash data, and the state has never penalized them for violating the law. The state has never required users to submit how many red light violation crashes took place before and after camera use, instead requiring often irrelevant types of crashes. The government cannot be above the law, this erodes public confidence.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
