Action Item: State House Bill HB 345 and Senate Bill SB 606, Regional Transportation Commission

As many of you will remember, we fought to keep a regional transportation center out of the downtown as it would have encompassed many very expensive projects which would have been heavily subsidized by the taxpayers and as it was regional, control over the destiny of Duval County in relation to the project (or projects since it was massive) would have been taken out of the hands of the voters and taxpayers in our county and put into the hands of appointed bureaucrats at a regional level (no oversight).  The regional transportation center would also have given the voters outside Duval County a voice in how the residents of Duval County spend their tax dollars (or perhaps don't wish to spend their tax dollars).

So, here we go again.  There is a bill in Tallahassee which would form another Regional Transportation Commission for the purpose of doing regional transportation projects, and we need to stop this from happening.  I don't think the state should be about the business of forcing Jacksonville/Duval County to pay for regional anything or give folks outside Duval County a voice in how our city government is run or city taxes are spent.

This small article appeared in the Times Union:

Transportation:
A bill by Travis Cummings, R-Orange Park, would create the Northeast Florida Regional Transportation Commission, covering Duval, Baker, Clay Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns Counties.
The commission would be comprised of 4 members from Duval and one each from the smaller counties. All would be unpaid (question: for how long will they be unpaid?).
The commission would be tasked with improving "mobility and expanding multimodel transportation options from persons and freight throughout the Northeast Florida Region" according to the bill.
The commission could hire an executive director (this should be of concern since no $ amount is indicated in relation to this position.  Is it a paid position and will this be a a high paid union person who will get this nightmare rolling?).

The bill HB 345 does not have a senate sponsor.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
