Herman Cain’s wife Gloria has emerged to defend her husband against allegations that he sexually harassed women during his time at a Washington trade group in the late 1990s.
“To hear such graphic allegations and know that that would have been something that was totally disrespectful of her as a woman, and I know that’s not the person he is,” Gloria Cain says in an interview to be aired Monday evening. Her husband, she says, “totally respects women.” (Watch video below.)
Herman and Gloria Cain chose the friendly confines of the Greta Van Susteren’s show on Fox News Channel for the interview, which has seemingly been in the works since the harassment scandal broke.
Gloria Cain has largely stayed out of sight—both since Cain’s presidential campaign took off and since it was consumed by the allegations from four women that Cain’s conduct was inappropriate during his time at the National Restaurant Assn. She hasn’t been a traditional campaign wife, greeting voters at events and joining her husband on the stump.
While trying to keep the spotlight off his wife for 43 years, Cain has maintained that she has been wholly supportive of him during the tumult and the allegations have upset her.
In a smattering of clips Fox News released in advance of the interview, Gloria Cain makes reference to Sharon Bialek, the Chicago-area woman who held a press conference last week and said Cain made sexual advances in a car when she was seeking help with finding a job.
“I looked at especially this last lady and the things that she said and I’m thinking he would have to have a split personality to do the things that she said,” Gloria Cain said.
