Vetoes of pro-life legislation, ban on public funding of abortion and language to protect Floridians from a health care mandate
Tallahassee–The Republican Party of Florida today commented on Charlie Crist’s politically-motivated veto of pro-life legislation that would provide women the opportunity to view additional information about a child before deciding to move forward with an abortion, save Floridians’ tax dollars from being used to fund elective abortions, and defend Floridians against a federal health care mandate.
“Charlie Crist said he was pro-life, but when it comes time to actually DO something pro-life, instead he did something he thinks will help his Senate campaign,” said RPOF Chairman John Thrasher. “How can Charlie Crist claim to be ‘for the people’ when he vetoed language that would ban public funding of abortion and protect Floridians from a health care mandate, both issues the vast majority of Floridians support?”
The Federal Health Care legislation recently signed into law by President Obama allows the states the right to opt out of abortion coverage in the healthcare exchanges altogether. HB 1143 simply extended state policy barring the use of taxpayer dollars for elective abortions.
“The people of Florida elected Governor Crist because on the campaign trail he promised voters that he had a fundamental belief in the sanctity of human life,” continued Chairman Thrasher. “With today’s veto, Governor Crist once again proved that he can’t be trusted. But sadly, by vetoing common sense legislation that provides additional information for parents considering abortion and protects Floridians’ tax dollars from being used to fund elective abortions, Governor Crist chose to put politics above people and put his own political ambitions above the lives of the most vulnerable among us – unborn children.”
Before vetoing HB 1143, Charlie Crist removed the Pro-Life/Family Section of his website.
State law already requires ultrasounds for abortions performed in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of a pregnancy. HB 1143, vetoed today by Charlie Crist, would also require an ultrasound for abortions in the 1st trimester. In the overwhelming majority of abortion procedures, an ultrasound is already required and already part of the cost. An ultrasound prior to an abortion is a medically necessary and safety precaution for the mother. An ultrasound is routinely used by abortion providers to confirm the pregnancy, determine the gestational age of the child, and determine if any unusual circumstances exist such as a tubal pregnancy.
HB 1143 would provide mothers the opportunity to view their ultrasound before undergoing an abortion if they choose to. The bill does not force a mother to view her ultrasound nor listen to an oral description of it. The mother can decline this opportunity by simply signing a form.

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
