Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.

Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.

Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

From Jax.com Home page-reporter- Larry Hannan

Earlier this week, the Transportation Energy and Utilities Committee deferred the issue without voting or debating it. Under City rules, Legislation requires a supermajority to be presented for a full council vote if it hasn't gone through all the relevant City Council committees, said Deputy General Counsel Steve Rohan.

City Council President Jack Webb said members will have to approve taking the bill out of the Transportation Committee by a supermajority vote. But if the supermajority vote succeeds, there will then be a second vote on approving the actual legislation that can pass with a simple majority of members.

It's possible some council members will vote to take it out of the committee, and then vote against the actual bill, he said.

Webb said he hadn't made up his mind on whether to support taking the bill out of committee. He wants to talk to Bishop about why he tabled it before making a decision.

Five council members — Bishop, John Crescimbeni, Clay Yarborough, Art Shad and Richard Clark — voted against the bill earlier this week in the Rules Committee. Assuming all five all vote no next week, JTA can only afford to lose one more council member.

But if there is a quorum, can he remain there.  Since we know that he will only take those who will vote in favor of those things the others would not vote for or would ask to have tabled for a time, then, can they remain in the committee if all the committee members show up.  I really would like that slime ball hung out to dry totally.  He really is taking away the voice of those who do not wish to see the city thrown into the drink by the big spending lunees.

Chuck, count me in.  Do you need our Emails to keep this out of the hands of old crafty Jack or can it be in the sunshine (something JW does not do or understand).

According to our Ethics Officer. the Council President can appoint himself to any standing committee at any time and he can appoint enough members to ensure quorum- here is what i am thinking see what you all think- we need lots and lots of people at Council on the 28th and we are not there to argue any specific issue rather we are there to take all items we have been talking about and push them out of the lame duck and into the sunshine, I am afraid we will lose if we take them on individually!

How can Jack Webb do that if there is a Rules Committee? He is clearly manipulating everything, who can demand that he step down because he has over stepped his power? Or has he?

I had been hoping that the Rules Committee would keep all three issues from Council on the 28th. I am talking specifically about JTA land transfer, Everbank, and Parador- The votes were looking promising but now to my shock and surprise, Jack Webb has appointed himself, Reggie Brown and Dick Brown as temporary Rules Committee Members the deck has been stacked.

CJ, go to the blog I just posted about this.  This isn't about a simple transfer of land by any stretch of the imagination.........

It's here:  http://firstcoastteaparty.ning.com/profiles/blogs/city-council-bill...

There is more, but you are the premier letter writer, and there is tons behind this so called transfer of land.

Sent to Counsel this morning

Bill 361 pertaining to JTA and the bus terminal is so confusing because the Bill contains too many issues.
Yesterday you asked the council auditor to come up with examples where construction and operating expenses continued to need money after the initial approval.
Right off the top of my head was the the new courthouse, others are the Cecil Field Complex and equestrian center that continue to withdraw money though council.
As Iv'e mentioned before Bill 361 is about so much more than acquisition of land and Council is essentially approving a back door approval for the Regional Bus terminal as well and yet contains no financial impact for such an indeavor.

CONVEYING FEE SIMPLE TITLE TO SUCH PARCELS FROM THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE TO THE JACKSONVILLE TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (JTA) FOR USE IN THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER

Page 2 line 30

WHEREAS, JTA will leverage the value of the donated land to accelerate the construction of the intercity bus terminal so it is completed within 2 years of the effective date of the Land Conveyance Agreement authorized by this ordinance
Page 3 line 12  Approves the terminal on the land mentioned previously in this same Bill
Section 2.      Purpose.        The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is planning the construction and operation of a multimodal transportation center known as the Regional Transportation Center (RTC) on property owned by JTA and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in conjunction with FDOT and other governmental units.

Page 4 line 12  The Mayor, or his designee, and the Corporation Secretary, are hereby authorized to (1) execute and deliver, the Land Conveyance Agreement (with such “technical changes” as herein authorized) and all such other documents, necessary or appropriate to effectuate the purpose of this ordinance and (2) take, or cause to be taken, such further action to effectuate the purpose of this ordinance. The Land Conveyance Agreement may include such additions, deletions and changes as may be reasonable, necessary and incidental for carrying out the purposes thereof, as may be acceptable to the Mayor, or his designee,

This Bill is against the law as it contains too many issues and also removes any further oversite of the Council
Please stop this Bill! Require separation of issues in separate Bills, Please.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
