Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.
Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

Earlier this week, the Transportation Energy and Utilities Committee deferred the issue without voting or debating it. Under City rules, Legislation requires a supermajority to be presented for a full council vote if it hasn't gone through all the relevant City Council committees, said Deputy General Counsel Steve Rohan.
City Council President Jack Webb said members will have to approve taking the bill out of the Transportation Committee by a supermajority vote. But if the supermajority vote succeeds, there will then be a second vote on approving the actual legislation that can pass with a simple majority of members.
It's possible some council members will vote to take it out of the committee, and then vote against the actual bill, he said.
Webb said he hadn't made up his mind on whether to support taking the bill out of committee. He wants to talk to Bishop about why he tabled it before making a decision.
Five council members — Bishop, John Crescimbeni, Clay Yarborough, Art Shad and Richard Clark — voted against the bill earlier this week in the Rules Committee. Assuming all five all vote no next week, JTA can only afford to lose one more council member.
But if there is a quorum, can he remain there. Since we know that he will only take those who will vote in favor of those things the others would not vote for or would ask to have tabled for a time, then, can they remain in the committee if all the committee members show up. I really would like that slime ball hung out to dry totally. He really is taking away the voice of those who do not wish to see the city thrown into the drink by the big spending lunees.
Chuck, count me in. Do you need our Emails to keep this out of the hands of old crafty Jack or can it be in the sunshine (something JW does not do or understand).
Im in!!!!
Whats the plan?
CJ, go to the blog I just posted about this. This isn't about a simple transfer of land by any stretch of the imagination.........
It's here: http://firstcoastteaparty.ning.com/profiles/blogs/city-council-bill...
There is more, but you are the premier letter writer, and there is tons behind this so called transfer of land.
Sent to Counsel this morning
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
