Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.

Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.

Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

PoPpiNG in quickly this morning. Patricia, that is so true, i think the more attention and light that is shined on something, the more the media will pick up on it or someone will run with it. I wish i could be everywhere, i am trying to be as good as what i can do and do it the best way i can. I want to thank ALL here who with their knowledge and help have really taught me a lot about local government, and i have still tons of things to still learn.

CJ, a flashmob from what i understand is organized through social media like Facebook, TWiTTeR, etc., i am just getting familiar with those. They really take up too, much time to play with in my opinion but then i am not that familiar them yet. That would of been pretty neat to have organize. Not really radical... just another tool to communicate and organize. That what gave then candidate Obama the edge in 2008. Interesting to note he is now offering a meal with him in a drawing for a $5 donation. Wonder how many people on food stamps are donating for that chance?

CJ, this article just showed up after your rant.  It is quite possible you brought this to the attention of someone who did follow up on it and found your rant to be absolutely warranted!  Nice work if that is what happened!  It seems certainly to be a bit too much of a coincidence to me for it not to be so.

FLASHMOB

Oh how I wish there could have been an organized flashmob at the New fountain dedication today. Mayor with Council cronies are supposed to all be there.
Have prepared chants and American related songs ready on cue to over power presentations.
I know.... its a little radical but yet so powerful!
Something Im sure they would not soon forget

Ms. Mc Bride you may remember my rant Tuesday night of the JEDC and all of the failures they bring to the city past and presen. The city is starting to notice too.

Jacksonville board wants to tighten SMG contract oversight

Committee wants more frequent examination of company performance.

There is talk of putting JEDC back into Planning and Dev.  The independent power the JEDC has  must be removed

This "railroading" of City Council Bills absolutely MUST be stopped
and it requires a lot of support from everyone that reads or hears of
this.
Every citizen, taxpayer, member of Concerned Taxpayers of Duval
County, member of First Coast Tea Party and all who learn of this that
has any real concern for what happens to this city and its people
needs to do whatever they can and are willing do to e-mail, write,
text message, speak out to others and/or speak out in public meetings
or media against any and all of the actions being attempted by the
Mayor and some members of City Council.
You are not being asked to go to war or travel into harms way but just
do what any concerned and patriotic citizen would gladly and proudly
do.
City Council Committee Meetings are this coming week, the media is
easy to contact, and your City Council Members have e-mail and phones.

WHERE ARE YOU!

cj, i AM GOING TO POST YOUR LAST COMMENT AS A BLOG.  BILLIE NEEDS TO SEE IT AND HOPEFULLY SEND IT OUT.  THIS IS, INDEED, VERY DANGEROUS AND THE VERY TYPE OF THING OBAMA HAS DONE TIME AND AGAIN WITH THE BUNCH HE HAD THAT NEVER READ ANYTHING.  THIS WORDING NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY REMOVING IT PERIOD.  THE FELLOW IN CHARGE OF THE JEDC IS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY PEYTON FROM ALL APPEARANCES WHEN YOU LOOK AT HIS HISTORY AND CONNECTIONS WHICH IS ONE OF THE VERY BAD THINGS ABOUT ALLOWING THE MAYOR TO PICK SOMEONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE'S BEST INTERESTS.  WHAT A HORROR SHOW!

JL I have to say I am most grateful for your efforts.  For the few weeks I have received and sent messages hoping to help the cause I am disappointed that it is the same few people that give their all for the cause. Thank you Mr. White, Ms. Mc Bride, JR and JL. Im sure some are working behind the scenes but I thought the home page boasted over 300 members and I was expecting maybe something moregand.  If we are ever to succeed at recalls in the future it can only be done with the masses responding to do so. I believe in the Tea Party and all that it stands for but it cant be just a few of us showing up and or carrying the load. We will lose every time.

Over time I too have received messages from Mr.C and he is most helpful but definitely out numbered.

I took the liberty of sharing your excellent comment with the Concerned Tax payers and they are active in all the bills you mentioned and have been doing a writing campaign to city officials hoping they get the message loud and clear.

This is only one thing I sent Council just this morning. I want them turning against the mayor if possible and this just helped because their power is removed once approved. Discontent and disruption among the council would be most advantageous to our cause.

This is from Bill 11-368
This Bill is very is dangerous for all of us
These are the highlights but more exists that is very bad

I will get back to you about Kaman Aerospace and the pension Bill. I promise not to waste any of our time, it will be worth it.
None of it an emergency or high priority.  Accuracy and details over speed is essential.

Section 1.         Further Authorizations.  The Mayor, or his designee, and the Corporation Secretary and the Executive Director of JEDC, or his designee, are hereby authorized to execute the Agreement and all other contracts and documents and otherwise take all necessary action in connection therewith and herewith. The Executive Director of the JEDC, as contract administrator, is authorized to negotiate and execute all necessary changes and amendments to the Agreement and other contracts and documents, to effectuate the purposes of this Ordinance, without further Council action, provided such changes and amendments are limited to amendments that are technical in nature (as described in Section 2 hereof, and further provided that all such amendments shall be subject to appropriate legal review and approval by the General Counsel, or his designee, and all other appropriate official action required by law.

Again I thank you and now I have a pension bill to pick apart as there is a meeting on monday

This part is dangerous

Section 1.      Execution of the Agreement.   If the Agreement approved by this ordinance has not been signed by EverBank within ninety (90) days after the JEDC delivers or mails the unexecuted Agreement to EverBank for execution, then the City Council approval of the Project and authorization for the Mayor to execute the Agreement is automatically revoked, provided however, that the Executive Director of the JEDC shall have the authority to extend such ninety (90) day period in writing at his discretion for up to an additional ninety (90) days.

Chuck, i received a couple emails from John Crescimbeni about bills pending, the $500,000.00 disagreement with the Jaguars in the debt concerning Everbank stadium, and the Metro Transportation Center.

He has been so helpful, I sent to the same email below to ALL council members and only received replies from Mr. Crescimbeni, which I am going to inform Tallahassee that he has been very candid, responsive and helpful while the others were not. He says we can speak out via emails and attending the meetings, i am sending this information out to people in my area to do the same. We've got to shine a light on this and get a handle on the under-handed tactics that Peyton, Webb and all the others are practicing which are against the law in my  opinion. Peyton breaking the Sunshine laws and being excused in his first term should of been a BIG RED LIGHT.

My email sent out to ALL City Council Members on June 15,2011 with cc: all members listed:

Subject: Pending Bills in Council

Bills 2011-361, 2011-365, 2011-366, 2011-367, 2011-368, 2011-369

Bills 2011-365, 2011-3066, 2011-3067, 2011-369 are basically the JEDC giving Everbank corporate welfare.

It has been brought to our attention that there are several questionable bills in City Council that are being un-vetted and fast tracked by the Mayor and City Council.

These bills are dealing with money being give by the JEDC to Everbank for a move to downtown and for a parking garage that Everbank will benefit from.

Also there is a move to purchase land for the bus terminal, that has not fully been looked into. There has been NO approval for a RegionalTransportation Center project to buy any land for JTA. So that they do not have to pay for it. This bill should be withdrawn.

Also there is a $500,000.00 three old dispute between the Jaguars and the City of Jacksonville on who is responsible for paying. It seems that this could be easily resolved by having city attorneys look at the contract between the COJ and the Jaguars.

The city of Jacksonville has given enough to Everbank and the Jaguars, they gave up $4,000,000.00 to sweeten the deal for naming rights to Everbank.

In a time where every penny should be carefully spent and watched, Mayor Peyton and this city Council is doing a absolutely lousy job and the people of Jacksonville are NOT going stand for anymore wasteful spending or backroom deals. Proper criteria is not being met. We have read a report last year or in 2009 that Everbank was sitting on over $560,000,000.00 million dollars. Our tax dollars should not go towards their move or a parking garage period. The city without consent from the tax payers has already given them over $4,000,000.00 million dollars that could of gone towards our broken school system or infrastructure.

We will be sending a copy to the State of Florida and will be keeping a close eye on all bills coming up before the Council that are passed and signed by the Mayor.

Everbank is a business and should be paying their own way, period. We have also noticed that several international companies are involved also, El-Ad and Parador Partners, LLC. Why is this being hidden?

There appears to be a lot of money flying between the Weavers, Jaguars, Everbank, Mayor Peyton, etc., at the cost to Jacksonville Taxpayers who deserve better, it is our money.

These bills are not going through the proper channels or being allowed public participating. We want you to go through the correct procedures and stop the illegal fast tracking because June 30th is the end of your/or others term.

This is proof that a strong, independent ETHIC Committee needs to be put into place for the people of Jacksonville to make sure money is not wasted or misdirected and that our elected representatives remain true to their oath office and remain honorable stewards to the peoples' seats in Jacksonville, Florida.

He replied June 15, 2011,Thank you for your email.

Your list below is generally correct, and all the legislation you listed is on the fast track by the mayor to be voted out at our next City Council meeting.

However, please be advised that you will need to add two more to the list.  There were two pension bills added to the addendum to the addendum to the agenda of last night's meeting (2011-399 and 2011-400).  I believe both are now available for review online on the City Councils web page.  Their introduction (first reading) was very last minute.  In fact, I have learned that the Office of General Counsel presented them to the Legislative Services Division after the start of last night's City Council meeting.  As a result, the addendum to the addendum to the agenda (listing the same) was typed up in a different format than usual, because OGC had to prepare it (a function normally handled by Legislative Services - but they were all staffing the ongoing City Council meeting and couldn't do it).

It is my understanding that the mayor wants these bills taken up as an emergency next week in City Council committee meetings, and then he wants a final vote by the full City Council at our next City Council meeting on June 28.  Imagine that?  Two bills with a potential $700 million impact on the city, and the mayor wants an emergency vote.  I don’t think such a hasty approach is a prudent one and I’m not going to put the taxpayers at risk by rushing legislation through just because the mayor wants to get it done before he leaves office on June 30.

****************************************

I thanked him and asked him about several other things and what could citizens do about these bills and he replied:

On June 16, 2011  That the mayor is pushing to have nearly a dozen pieces of complicated legislation introduced in the waning days of his term, approved by the City Council before his term ends June 30.

What can citizens do to stop it?  Speak out via emails to Council members and by attending and speaking at City Council and Committee meetings.

Please feel free to use the body of my email and you can add to it.

Alot of people, even supporters of the deal are pushing to air this properly and have it come up for the new council- we'll see what happens next week in committee meetings. A prominent developer suggested to me today that we examine where JEDC is getting the funds from because the explanation given at the meeting has a few people scratching thier head. Does anyone remember exactly what Ron Barton said about this? We continue to push the cause on an almost daily basis on air.
