Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.

Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.

Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

My mistake on the timing for recall and we will suffer greatly until then. Article 15 of Municipal codes has been repealed due to the  Statute below.

Florida Staute 100.361

(8) WHEN PETITION MAY BE FILED.—No petition to recall any member of the governing body of a municipality shall be filed until the member has served one-fourth of his or her term of office. No person removed by a recall, or resigning after a petition has been filed against him or her, shall be eligible to be appointed to the governing body within a period of 2 years after the date of such recall or resignation.

This proposal is spelled out in a bill (2011-349) that's in front of the City Council now."

Waste hauler Southland Waste has struck a tentative deal with City Hall to start so-called "automated" pickups at about 70,000 homes in parts of Arlington and the Northside under a contract that would run until 2021.

Look at the length of the Contract!!! Smells like Trail Ridge all over again PLUS Tax payers/homeowners will be saddled with a new expense to buy these new trash cans that are made to fit the trucks specifically.

My My they have been busy with their negations

El-Ad owns the building Parador LLC will own the garage and it is not Toney Sleiman's garage and I'm going to look at the agenda right now

OOPS!! Here's the missing link from my below comment. It's to the City of Jacksonville's June 14, 2011 City Council Meeting Agenda.

Sorry about that...

I posted earlier on this blog that the City of JAX has no business buying a huge amount of land and building a new bus terminal/hub during a recessionary period with another recession predicted to be on the way---creating a double-dip recession, and possibly even a depression.

Below is the link to the new City Council Agenda for the Council meeting on June 14, 2011. You have to scroll way down the webpage to #2011-365, which appears to be a lawsuit settlement related to parking garage/space for The Landing. Could possibly be the parking garage that was in the original contract with Sleiman Industries (Toney Sleiman), but not provided to them, for The Landing that they bought.

2011-366 is Parador Partners, LLC, related to the building for the Everbank/Parador Partners, LLC/El-Ad deal.

2011-367 is settlement of financial dispute over unpaid bills with Gator Bowl Association, Inc. (Weavers/Jaguars)

2011-368 and 2011-369 are both related to Everbank deal.

I see nothing related to El Ad, the business that owns, I believe, the parking garage related to the Everbank deal. There was nothing on the JEDC meeting agenda on June 9 (yesterday), to my knowledge, related to El Ad, unless it was going under another name. But, I believe Chuck told us El-Ad owns/hold the title to the parking garage property, while Parador Partners, LLC owns/holds the title to the building, both of which will be accommodating Everbank downtown.

Bill 11-384 the city is doing for Kamen Aerospace Corp the same thing as EverBank.

More corp. Welfare

I recommend getting appeals ready and pursuing recalls because we all know how council will vote;

Unless of course you still want to go by way of law suits

but I hope your real rich because Im guessing there is more where these came from

Sneaky sneaky..

Bill 383 sets the stage for changing the boundaries of the Enterprise Zone downtown.

Hmmmmm wonder if the change has something to do with appeasing EverBank too?

The City has no right to buy any land for a new bus terminal until after the bill authorizing it is approved in a final vote by City Council and then signed by the Mayor.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
