Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.

Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.

Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

These 4 new bills for everbank only require 2 readings as per CC Rules. They were squeezed in on a blue sheet last CC meeting so that is the first reading. They were very conniving on their timing.  RULE 3.305 LEGISLATION REQUIRING ONLY TWO READINGS   (c) Ordinances approving a qualified target industry business or qualified defense contractor incentive, including a brownfield bonus incentive for new jobs created by a qualified target industry business in a brownfield area, shall only require two readings, so long as the procedural requirements of general law are met.  A copy  of the proposed ordinance and all pertinent background information shall be provided to the Council Auditor simultaneous to filing with the Legislative Services Division

J. R. were you aware that Mr. Hogan had an appointment with Alvin Brown on Monday to discuss what he could do to help out with the city.  I don't know what was discussed, but I do know Mr. Hogan has been speaking to some groups around town as a guest speaker.  I think he, like many of us, was blind sided by the national campaign run by the Brown camp and they type of campaign.  I don't now that he would say anything at this point, and he may be doing what many others are doing, and that is to wait and see what happens.  We can't really scream and yell if Brown does what he says and does not raise taxes and finds a way to get the job done by getting people to volunteer and donate money and time.  I don't like the idea of any of what is going on with the council right now, and think anything of the magnitude should have been left for the new council.  For the old council (many of whom will not be present quite soon) to try to ram this stuff through and change the ethics commission etc, is totally not right.  It smells just as bad as the lame duck session of the last US Congress which I am sure you remember.  If the people did not like your style of leadership and voted you out, ramming things down their throats does not exactly endear you to any one............if you follow and think some of these folks plan on furthering their political careers (something we will have to be very watchful of).

Exactly, Patricia! They put the foxes in charge of "protecting" the henhouses, in order to "reign in" the Ethics Commission, when what those foxes will be protecting is themselves and their individual county domains. They even put Duval County Chief Judge Don Moran on the Commission and he was disqualified in a court case, along with Judge Henry Wiggins and the entire Fourth Judicial Circuit. They tried to bifurcate a case in which their actions, as Judges, was called into question, then engaged in ex parte communication with one another, ending with the Florida Supreme Court disqualifying Moran, Wiggins, and the entire Fourth Judicial Circuit. That was the ultimate in ethics violations, it was a number of years back, and Chief Judge Moran still holds his, what appears to be a lifetime career position as Chief Judge of the Duval County Courts. Where was the Ethics Commission on that perfect example of lack of ethics? This new setup is a complete farce and an injustice to Duval County citizens.

For those who do not already know, yesterday our fine city council members destroyed 2 years work by taking over the ethics commission for themselves to basically run.  If they are appointing members, what good will it be?  If the director has to be approved by the mayor, then, I guess the person will be a yes Man for the mayor.  Did they not understand we no longer trust them and don't want them in charge of an ethics commission???   Apparently, some of them are dirty enough that they feared a truly independent ethics commission for what it might find out or pursue?

Mr. White I meant to call-in to your show Monday but I was at the Rules Committee Meeting and it ran almost three hours and I didn't get to where I could call until after 1:00 and you had left but I spoke with the Manager, I believe, and thanked him for the station having the program and promised to try again today.

You mentioned speaking first at the JEDC Meeting and I am not the "chew chief" on any of this. I hope to get in contact with Patrica McBride and learn from her who is doing what from FCTP. ( Patricia and Debbie are you watching ? )  I do plan on being there and all of us should "huddle" about an hour before the meeting if we can.

I doubt we will have any choice about the speaking or the order of the speakers but a method that can be attempted is whoever of us is called on first could ask the Chairman to "allow you to introduce our concerns". Another factor is to get your card in or "name in the hat" before the meeting starts or just as soon thereafter as possible depending on what their procedures are.

I have a favor to ask of the readers here.  All who can, please come to the JEDC Meeting Thursday. Even if you don't speek you are showing the presence of "we the people" and please take notes and watch what is happening and observe the reactions to our appearance and share you observations here on the blog so all can see. Your observations can be used to review what and how well all of us did.

WOW!  I didn't mean ramble on.  I am just so concerned and at the same time so glade to see this discussion that I want to share in it.

It is late and my day starts in five hours.  Good night and God Bless.   Z-Z-Z-z - z - z

Chuck M., I've been paying close attention and have not heard one word about what Mike Hogan thinks of this. He's a gentleman and he appears to have chosen to remain above the fray. But, I believe the big dogs, who have a vested interest in the taxpayers' forced subsidizing of the three Everbank, Parador,LLC and El-AD private businesses, as well as the continuation of the taxpayers' forced subsidizing of the Jaguars privately-owned franchise (business), first supported RINO Audrey Moran. When Audrey Moran lost, they threw their support and money behind Alvin Brown for Mayor. Audrey Moran also endorsed Brown and threw her and her campaign's support behind him.

In other words, the big dogs double-teamed with Audrey Moran and her campaign to defeat Mike Hogan and throw the election to Brown. The main "big dogs" who are big players in Jacksonville and supported Brown are Rummel and the Weavers. The Weavers own the Jaguar franchise. Alvin Brown used to work for the Weavers and Doris Weaver is, I believe, on Mayor-elect Brown's transition team. And, with all that, Brown barely squeaked out a win. Stunning, isn't it?

Mr Morrison you are exactly right-JR and Ms. Mcbride we are lucky on this one. The Times/tiny Union and David Bauerlien (he became a Tea Party member today) are doing a story on this tomorrow. I actually had a call and from someone who will prosper in this deal, and with laughter in his tone, I was told "my people told me to get to you, so you would shut up!"  Bless you all! Keep listening to Just Speak Up and I look forward to meeting you on Thursday.

Wonder what Mr.Hogan's opinion of all this might be??  Or is this why the big dogs supported Brown for Mayor?

Thanks for the shout out, Patricia. Count me in. In my opinion, it's inappropriate and unethical to vote on this in the last few weeks of a lame duck Mayor's and City Council President's tenure in office... and when the makeup of the new Council is changing. It's likely Alvin Brown is also for the Everbank deal, but he doesn't get to vote, just glad hand and try to influence it.

The City Council and Mayor don't usually get watched this closely, except for on the budget, which is a mistake on the public's part. On the budget issue, we should have stated our objections much earlier. Same with this, if we had known the details of it earlier. They should always have to put forth a final version of a proposal and publish it online, at least two months before the final vote occurs, so the public can become well-informed about everything included in it and make their opinions heard.

Rushing this anti-taxpayer Everbank deal through at the eleventh hour is outrageous and a slap in the face of all taxpayers. After all, it's the taxpayers who pay the Mayor's and Council members' salaries. How easily they forget that they work for the people, not the other way around.

JR, if you were not at the city council meeting last week (the subcommittee of the rules committee), then, you do not know that a very astutue CTDC member has already told them, any action that is not appropriate will be followed by a recall election, and I have already thrown my name in to help with such an action (if such a volunteer status can be put forth at this time).  I would help and think others should if they push this through!

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
