Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.
Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.
We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.
Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

This is Colleen...
Remember David and Golith???
Remember God allows you to move moutains...you do have to ask for the mountian to be moved or to speak to the mountain....but it is possible.
Mr White, Dear Sir, I beg of you to impel your listeners to write to those mentioned below as well as council in masses to inundate those with power either real or imagined with messages either long or short to emphasize constituent discontent even if actions remain ever so slightly within the law.
To my dismay over the last few weeks since getting involved with a couple of groups it is again the same few people that have shown up at council and committee meetings, Thats ok since priorities have rank but to me there is no excuse for others to not write or call the powers that be in support of those that do show up face to face.
I am disillusioned by the numbers purportedly touted in these groups that continuously leave the battle to others and am ready to throw in the towel in adding to the discussions that get a rise out of and little action from so few.
I use much valuable time sharing information that can be used in a much more productive way in my own research and addresses to council than tapping away at a key board to the same few people that already walk the walk.
The same 5 or 10 people can not make the changes we seek, we need hundreds or we shouldnt show up at all.
Thank you for your time
Sincerely
CJ
CJ and all, I got an answer to my question about waiving something on each and every bill (making the square peg fit the round hole by getting rid of anything standing in the way). Not good news and totally unreal. Why have rules and laws if you add rule that allows you to ignore them all????? Response from the person who read my query and knew the answer:
Unfortunely, the problem is that the state mandated the what the municipal code must do and include, and they are waving things like publishing (required by the state) and the bidding process (also required by the state).
JR and JL that too is a good way to go here is the link to Ms Bondi's newsletter to help get you started. I know I will continue looking thru Bill HB 7207 and Municipal Code with Ms. McBride and hopefully others to see how many specific laws are being ignored to bring to Councils attention.

In order to succeed we must hit from all sides an as many ways as possible to keep them off balance. The Div. of Community Affairs replied to me they cannot help. I believe It would be so much more helpful if nothing else, if more of our population could write to the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Dev.,Local Inspector General and of course the AG besides little ole me.
There is more on the agenda then just the Bills we discussing that I plan to address and have much to do. Good luck to all
I think having AG Bondi and her staff pick up the ball at this point with all of the information, research, and potential areas of conflict you have identified is the way to go. I also believe that inroads need to be made with local law firms who are either sympathetic to the FCTP or who have partners who are members would be something to consider. Most firms have an obligation to participate in pro bono type work and this along with an opportunity to interface with the state AG and potentially the DA's office would be seen as a positive by those firms. A registered letter with a signature upon receipti suggesting their participation would also of value as it would overcome any future denial that they were not asked to assist. Those firms that ignore or refuse to help in our efforts will then be identified so that the 7000 + FCTP members are aware of their postion and when evaluating their firms for future use that information can be taken into the decision to utilize that firm or Not !!!! A posting of those firms who refuse as well as any businesses who the FCTP believes acts in ways or exhibits corporate behavior that is not in character with the standards we believe as an organization need to be adhered to should be listed in a place on the web site where members can review before making purchasing decisions. Look upon it as a favored and not favored business venue site. Not favored - avoid them and do not use them as a source of purchasing. Ultimately all firms will have to assess whether the ramifications of the actions or in some cases in actions will impact their personal and professional levels of success.
free participation is following through is a beginning
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
