Our outgoing Mayor has proposed to the tune of over $6 million of our tax dollars that we the taxpayers buy Everbank's relocation of 800 employees to one of Downtown's vacant highrises. The funds of which $2.75 million goes directly into Everbank's hands to pay for quote "leasing costs" come from JEDC. When JEDC was founded, (1996 I believe) it was specifically stated that these funds would not be used to attract companies to relocate from one section of Jacksonville to another. I work specifically in this arena, I represent tenants looking for office space and I represent building owners and their space and I have never heard of a City doing something like this for an existing tenant . Everbank will come from the I-95/Butler Corridor to Downtown Jacksonville at the expense of their landlord in the suburbs. Would Everbank do this without the money, who knows? They certainly have enough money of their own to do this without this handout.

Another $3.25 million dollars is to build a parking garage so Everbank can park presumably for free. Is this Toney Sleiman's garage? It is not, it is another concession to Everbank. Who will this benefit? Of course Everbank, but who else? First Coast News interviewed a hot dog vendor who said (I paraphrase) "it will be good for my business but I don't think taxpayer dollars should be used." This is a private business deal between landlord and a potential new tenant, no interference is necessary from Government and the Government is damaging the existing landlord by putting this "backroom" deal together.

We invite you to join our discussion on this subject already in progress on "Just Speak Up" heard Mon.-Fri. on AM600 WBOB at 12 o'clock Noon. Any of our Councilmen who are listening are invited to participate in the discussion also, that number is 904-854-1320. Please get involved on this one, let's hold the outgoing Mayor responsible and pray our City Councilmen will make the right decision.

Fiunally JEDC takes up this subject for the first time on June 9th at Jacksonville's City Hall Suite 400 at 9 AM. I'll be there will you?

I have spoken to my listeners on a daily basis, do not be disillusioned we are fighting the right fight and it starts with the few. Please do not quit your work is important and it has spread to my listeners. Our voice is getting louder all the time, I cannot share with you names/people who now have joined this fight "off the record" or "do not use my name" and we may not win this fight this time but we will come back to "play another day". We all answer to a higher authority and we need not judge at our level from Matthew 7:6 "Do not cast your pearls before Swine"

CJ, you should not become discouraged at all.  The people who began the revolution to free us from British tyranny was only about 13% of the population and look what happened there.  Yes, we must get people involved, and yes, people should be calling and writing if they can't go to meetings and speak out.  I know it seems like few do anything, but had it not been for Chuck taking the time to post this blog, we might not have been as aware of what was taking place, if it had not been for you and JL hunting up some information, this might not have gone as far as it did.  If you believe the city council is not aware and is not hearing us, you are wrong.  If you think the impact you alone could have is greater than several of us all coming at them from the same page, I think you are wrong.  I heard someone from the council indicate an Email box overflowing with Email (I have pushed calling or Emailing on here, with the Arlington group, and at every chance on the comment sections in the TU on line.  I also post things on Facebook and have many Florida friends.  I include information from here, articles and the like.  You are especially good at writing letters and speaking and not everyone is.  You are good at looking up laws and not everyone is.  Please do not be discouraged, and I am sorry about today, but I have been in this game for over 2 1/2 years day after day in many cases for half the day to the whole day, and hubby is very tolerant of my not being here to do all the things I used to do and sometimes to not even fix dinner.  So Saturday is the day I set aside to try to be with him and do what he wants to do.............it isn't that I am quitting working on this, but I have already given up more than you can know in the way of anything that would pass for normal life, so Saturday I try to take a breath and spend some time being somebody's wife for a change :).  Please don't lose the faith on this as Tuesday night is it.  I understand you do other things on this issue, so do I and so do others.  I have written to almost everyone on the city council in the last 3 or 4 days and sent them an attachment related to 2011-361.  I wanted them to know they are very likely going to lose control totally of that land they are thinking of giving the JTA if and when they become a "regional" outfit and it was important to me to let them know, at this time there is only a study commission not a RTC for NE Florida................so this has not been the only thing I am working on as I know this is not the only thing you are doing.  God bless you for helping on this.  You are rock solid and an inspiration.

Mr White, Dear Sir, I beg of you to impel your listeners to write to those mentioned below as well as council in masses to inundate those with power either real or imagined with messages either long or short to emphasize constituent discontent even if actions remain ever so slightly  within the law.

To my dismay over the last few weeks since getting involved with a couple of groups it is again the same few people that have shown up at council and committee meetings, Thats ok since priorities have rank but to me there is no excuse for others  to not write or call the powers that be in support of those that do show up face to face.

I am disillusioned by the numbers purportedly touted in these groups that continuously leave the battle to others and am ready to throw in the towel in adding to the discussions that get a rise out of and little action from so few.

I use much valuable time sharing information that can be used in a much more productive way in my own research and addresses to council than tapping away at a key board to the same few people that already walk the walk.

The same 5 or 10 people can not make the changes we seek, we need hundreds or we shouldnt show up at all.

Thank you for your time

Sincerely

CJ

You folks are great- I have a call into a lawyer right now- he works for a leading independent group and is known to be agressive and my question to him is exactly what you're asking about Enterprise Zones. I sent out my emails yesterday touting my expertise in the business and how this transaction is so far out of the box and interferes with business etc. I personally have been labeled by those lobbying for these bills as someone who gains financially if EverBank stays where they are at. It is a false accusation and I will be calling all Councilmen personally on Monday. With the agenda shortened thanks to a few Councilmen who get it, I am not hopeful of deferring the EverBank issue and I hope Jack Webb does not try and get a supemajority on the Garage and the land swap issues. There are so many moving pieces right now and in the Business Journal there is a story that EverBank is far from making a decision and I know that to be true. They are listening to our radio show and currently using my words for building their case, a common trick. Regardless of what happens Tuesday the fight is far from over and oh by the way- The listeners/callers and many many people understand this is wrong and have encouraged us to keep up the dialogue. Let's get ready for Tuesday with as much support as we can get and I'll continue to push. This is now officially exposed and so are those pushing for it and it will be for those who vote for it. Thank You for all you are doing.

CJ, I am going to have very little time today.  Saturday is togetherness day and Saturday night is date night (we actually take one of the old cars and go to a cruise in and eat out...........but just the kind of date we like.....so it works for us).  I try to keep most of Saturday for us if at all possible and usually don't make any commitments if I can help it.

CJ and all, I got an answer to my question about waiving something on each and every bill (making the square peg fit the round hole by getting rid of anything standing in the way).  Not good news and totally unreal.  Why have rules and laws if you add rule that allows you to ignore them all?????  Response from the person who read my query and knew the answer:

I saw your question about what authority they have to waive restricting or forbidding ordinances.
This is often asked and you will not like the answer. It is in the description of powers of City Council that they can take exception to any ordinance originated by this City Council to facilitate a new ordinance that states a justification for the exception and that is no more than a "whereas" this ordinance is needed.
It is Horrible but apparently every City Council has wanted it that way because both of the time it was tried to remove or reword it it has been "withdrawn".
Maybe someday we will have an "ethical" City Council that eliminates such things and maybe even give us adequate time and places to speak. (now I'm being radical or insane)

Unfortunely, the problem is that the state mandated the what the municipal code must do and include, and they are waving things like publishing (required by the state) and the bidding process (also required by the state).

JR and JL that too is a good way to go here is the link to Ms Bondi's newsletter to help get you started. I know I will continue looking  thru Bill HB 7207 and Municipal Code with Ms. McBride and hopefully others to see how many specific laws are being ignored to bring to Councils attention.

In order to succeed we must hit from all sides an as many ways as possible to keep them off balance. The Div. of Community Affairs replied to me they cannot help. I believe It would be so much more helpful if nothing else, if more of our population could write to the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Dev.,Local Inspector General and of course the AG besides little ole me.

There is more on the agenda then just the Bills we discussing that I plan to address and have much to do. Good luck to all

I think having AG Bondi and her staff pick up the ball at this point with all of the information, research, and potential areas of conflict you have identified is the way to go.  I also believe that inroads need to be made with local law firms who are either sympathetic to the FCTP or who have partners who are members would be something to consider.  Most firms have an obligation to participate in pro bono type work and this along with an opportunity to interface with the state AG and potentially the DA's office would be seen as a positive by those firms.  A registered letter  with a signature upon receipti suggesting their participation would also of value as it would overcome any future denial that they were not asked to assist.  Those firms that ignore or refuse to help in our efforts will then be identified so that the 7000 + FCTP members are aware of their postion and when evaluating their firms for future use that information can be taken into the decision to utilize that firm or Not !!!!  A posting of those firms who refuse as well as any businesses who the FCTP believes acts in ways or exhibits corporate behavior that is not in character with the standards we believe as an organization need to be adhered to should be listed in a place on the web site where members can review before making purchasing decisions.  Look upon it as a favored and not favored business venue site.  Not favored - avoid them and do not use them as a source of purchasing.  Ultimately all firms will have to assess whether the ramifications of the actions or in some cases in actions will impact their personal and professional levels of success.

free participation is following through is a beginning

How about attorney general Pam Bondi? She is listed over at the States Sunshine law site. They are in violation in my opinion. Mayor John Peyton and his staff were already called down for violations at the first of his term because he 'thought' mayor and staff had privileges to be paid by tax payers to attend Jaguar games and Musical concerts and venues, unfortunately they were 'forgiven'. Personally i think they should of been charged, they were clearly aware of their violations, if not then they should of step down out of office and resigned because of shear incompetence.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
