In Northeast Florida, I have seen no issue that the local Tea Party has taken that the Republican Party opposes.
The fact that the Tea party is endorsing John Thrasher is enough for me to disavow your local movement, but not necessarily the national one.
I have been involved with several rezoning problems over the years which only convinces me that the builders and developers care nothing for the residents; only the next buck.Having lived here some 30+ years, I have been closely acquainted with this industry. Nearly all the bad influence (and money)has been from national builders and out-of town developers. Most local guys that I know just want to make an honest living, and really care for the area; they live here also.
Look at our water situation. The St Johns River Management District has been monitoring withdrawals from the Florida aquifer, and currently is not permitting any new deep wells in St Johns County. Now, the central Florida builders and developers want to withdraw water from the lower St Johns river. Just imagine what that will do to the river by the time it gets to Jacksonville! The time has past when the residential building business will fuel Florida's growth. Florida's fragile environment has reached the limit of large-scale development.
We need fresh thinking on ways to develop new clean industries in Florida. Though it may sound radical, drilling far off the Florida coast for gas and oil can be done with minimal risk to our waters. The BP spill in the Gulf was an anomaly; safeguards exist to minimize the risk, but will require strict state and federal monitoring.
The national parties have been lax enforcing our current laws. Just look at the unfair trade laws, labor laws, immigration laws, banking, etc. The last 30 years both parties have been busy supporting the special BUSINESS interests, and voter blocks, and ignoring the middle and upper middle class. Most administrations and Congress from the time of Teddy Roosevelt's time through JFK worked to strengthen laws benefiting the majority of our citizens. After that, greed and an unholy lust for power has dominated, and we find ourselves in this awful current situation.
The solution: return to living by the Judeo-Christian ethic, eliminate the professional political class via term limits, and limit campaign spending to a very small amount. No more of the Rick Scott's and John Peyton's.
We truly need a third party, unencumbered by pro's from the current ones.I was so hoping the local Tea Party was that entity.
As you can see, I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican. The current party, and Glenn Beck, hate the man.
But look at Mt. Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.
