All of the Jacksonville library hours that were cut in June to save money will be restored by Saturday, Oct. 16.
Beginning Sunday, four Jacksonville regional libraries will again be open on Sundays. Those four are the Highlands, Beaches, South Mandarin and Webb Wesconnett regional libraries.
And five other branches that had hours significantly reduced will go back to regular schedules on Oct. 16. The five branches are Brentwood, Brown Eastside, Maxville, Murray Hill and Westbrook.
The City Council restored more than $500,000 for the hours, instead taking it from a fund set aside to purchase new CDs and DVDs.
New U.S. attorney to be sworn in to office
Veteran federal prosecutor Robert O'Neill will be sworn in next week as the new U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, a massive swath of the state that includes Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa.
O'Neill, 53, was confirmed by the Senate this week after his appointment by President Barack Obama. He replaces Brian Albritton..
O'Neill, of Tampa, was chosen in June among three finalists, including former State Attorney Harry Shorstein.
O'Neill was interim U.S. attorney under President George W. Bush, before Bush appointed Albritton in 2008, and has been running the office's criminal division.
