According to the Times Union, the Jacksonville City Council is expected to give final approval of the Duval County Budget and the proposed Property Tax Rate increase on September 28th.
Please read the article on the front page in the Times Union today regarding the Duval tax rates.
I've read it six times already trying to understand why we will be paying more than the Beaches and Baldwin who have, if I'm reading this correctly always paid less. They reaped the benefits of the "rollback"rate due to Peyton vetoing the councils decision to keep the property tax rate at 2008 levels.
The article goes on to say that if the Beaches and Baldwin rates are set lower the COUNCIL will either have to REDUCE the new CITY BUDGET or FORCE (excuse me?????????????) Jacksonville property owners to make up the difference.
Well excuse me City Councilmen but exactly what were you elected to do? I think it's a no brainier that we have to REDUCE the City BUDGET. We can't afford higher taxes.
Please call your councilman and let him know how you feel. Waiting until the 28th really won't do much . Should we attend on the 28th? OF COURSE. To show our solidarity if nothing else. If the meeting on the 28th goes anything like the one on the 14th the councilmen have already made up their minds and will vote accordingly. But if we call and then show up they may have second thoughts before they hit that yes button.
I may be wrong and I hope I am but I think Webb has set the stage for a yes vote, in the article when he said "The majority of the issues that we face are created and driven by the state. "That's the hand that we've been dealt and that's the hand that we're being forced to play."
PLEASE .......PLEASE.........PLEASE : CALL YOUR COUNCILMAN TODAY AND BE THERE ON THE 28th.
