Yes, I understand what you mean, that's why a stated NEW city employees. Mr. Hogan would be a new city employee as Mayor. He will no longer be in his old role or department. Elected officials and those they appoint should be considered in a different category than career service and should serve for a reason other than money. If we believe in citizen politicians then that should mean no pension and limited compensation. The goal of Money for oneself, their family, and their co-workers, in the private sector, free enterprise, should be praised, as it creates jobs, homes, food, clothing, and also optional expenditures such as entertainment. The goal of Money in the public sector should be public sector should be condemned. Those that decide to serve there should remember they choose to serve, not to become millionaires. Their path to a million is through placing $2000 a year in a 401k for 30 years and invest it wisely.
Some political compromise has to be made at what length of service only the 401k is offered. Some may suggest somewhere under 10 years of service and under age 35. But at a minimum, at least, any new city employee will only have the 401k option. To me, a bit hypocritical for a new Mayor, new employee, to say, yes I get a Mayor Pension, but you new city employees do not get a pension. How is he going to sell reform and the meaning of public service if he doesn't practice it. Elected Officials should leave office with no more than what their blind investments portfolio earns. I want elected officials that do not serve for the money. Mr. Hogan needs to decline the Mayor pension and endorse a private sector contribution level 401K Retirement Plan for city employees to get my vote. If he doesn't, even though I know he wants to do good things, then he's, at least, significantly in it for the Money.
From where I sit, Mr. Hogan has worked for our city and done a good job for many, many yeats, and even if he changed the pension system, people who are in the system and almost at retirement would not have their pension changed I would hope. It can only be changed for those people who have time to recover so to speak, and as Mr. Hogan is now 61, he probably would not be impacted nor should he. I think he will address the pensions, but I would hope he would be fair as well and if someone is already over 60 years old, fair would not be changing what they are counting on and making them start from scratch. I hope you understand what i mean? It would be like ripping social security away from someone who is in their 60s or already on social security and saying ok, now you have a 401K to contribute to for your retirement and expecting them to be able to fund it adequately to be able to retire (they would never be able to retire). Certainly I would not expect that to happen to any city employee, but I would like to see something different for those who are still young enough to transition. No one should totally fall between the cracks so to speak.
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
