Anyone hoping or fearing that Rick Perry would crash and burn in his first GOP debate last night can either feel depressed or rest easy.
In his debut on the national stage, Perry proved he possesses a somewhat indefinable star quality -- exactly what Republicans were distressed to feel was missing from the field.
That quality emanated from him even when he struggled with difficult questions about his views on climate change and Social Security that present complex electoral challenges for him and his party in a national race. He knew when to speak strongly and when to underplay.
At the outset, he delivered a strong jab to Mitt Romney’s job-creation record in Massachusetts quietly and offhandedly -- his almost diffident demeanor serving as cover for the shiv he was sticking in his rival.
But he was unhesitating when asked by Brian Williams at the end if he lost sleep over the number of people executed in Texas. Perry said plainly that those charged with capital crimes go through the legal process, their cases then go through an appellate process all the way to the Supreme Court -- and if all of that stands, the message is that if you kill a child or a police officer, you will face the ultimate justice.
It was a perfect answer.
What was not a perfect answer was his reply to the gotcha question from John Harris of Politico about which specific scientists he had consulted on the question of whether global warming was man-made. He repeated the contention that the science was not settled, but in speaking on the issue, he looked lost and angry.
More important is that Perry’s entire political rationale is that he is the guy who can get the country’s economy growing again. And said (ineloquently) last night is that the demands of the global-warming crowd make that task all but impossible. And that is unquestionably true.

Yes, Tamara, that is true, but he did do stop it and did sign the order based on assurances about the effectiveness of the vaccine. I am not a Ron Paul fan at all. He is to far to the right to suit me, but everyone supports those who suit them.
And Amanda, I don't see anything on this blog at all about Perry's comments about SS and medicare nor do I see any comments here that I made in reference to those 2 things?

He apologized for the executive order on mandatory vaccines because the people of the state of Texas went crazy mad over it. This guy was for Hillary care before he was against it. I still like Ron Paul. He can never win but at least he is honest. In my opinion, Rick perry cannot be trusted.

Funny Patricia, but when I said the same things that Rick Perry says about Social Security and Medicare, they are ponzis, you equated me with Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank. But now he is your darling child. Please. Which side of the issue are you on? Or do you rely upon others for your opinion?

Mr. Perry was presented with information that led him to believe the testing on this anti cancer product was complete and that it was safe. He later found out that the shot was not what he had been told and the risks were far greater than they should have been. He also apologized for the mistake he made it trying to make it mandatory. Personally, I find Governor Perry to be a breath of fresh air in that he does not try to mask the truth about where we are right now and what our priorities should be. And, he has created jobs in Texas by eliminating the impediments to job creation. Right now, no matter what else, the person we put in the white house must have his priorities set and putting our economy to rights has to be number 1. I think Mr. Perry understands that.

I found several things disturbing when listening to Rick Perry, including the fact that he signed an Executive Order forcing HPV vaccinations on little girls. If that's not the antithesis of the Tea Party, I don't know what is. I also found it disturbing that he has no problem with signing so many death warrants, especially when there is one death warrant he signed that the scientific evidence disputes that this man murdered anyone; as anyone with any kind of compassion, how could it not bother you at some level? that kind of "puffing of the chest" on a question like that gives me great pause. He sounded simple-minded, and with the complex problems facing this country, I am concerned that no one on that podium acted like they could lead us out of this mess. Not good.

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
