U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw is dismissing a political opponent's claim that years worth of campaign donations are clouding Crenshaw's true feelings for the environment.

Troy D. Stanley, an Independent and Navy vet who's running against Crenshaw in the Nov. 2 general election, said Crenshaw's career has been built on thousands of dollars from interests fighting against stricter water quality standards.

Stanley pointed to at least $16,500 from businesses that make up Don't Tax Florida, a coalition arguing that increased regulations would be an unwanted cost at a time the economy continues to recover.

During a meeting with The Times-Union's editorial board Tuesday, Crenshaw was dismissive.

"I don't think anybody thinks giving me any amount of money is going to change me," he said. "If people don't like what I do, they can run against me. That's what America's all about. I'm going to keep doing what I think is right."

Stanley said he was concerned that Crenshaw characterizes himself as a crusader for the St. Johns River.

Two environmental groups gave Crenshaw low marks in 2009. Environment America, a research coalition, gave Crenshaw a 33 percent approval rating. The League of Conservation voters gave him a 7 percent approval rating.

Crenshaw defended his record, saying he's worked hard to get grant money to remove septic tanks and build facilities to clean the St. Johns.

"Anybody who thinks I do anything because of the money someone gave me is dead wrong," he said.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
