I must say, Politico has been on a roll lately with regards to great stories to expound upon. I read an article today from Politico which discussed how a pol in Arizona shows voters are all for an illegal immigrant tent city. Now here is a quick background about these tent cities in case you are unaware of what they are talking about. I found an amazing article dated back in 2007 from a site called 'Canadian Content', "Inside America's Toughest Jail." The journalist in this article (who writes for The Sun.UK ) was comparing and contrasting the jails in Britain to the tent city jail that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has set up outside of Phoenix,AZ.

Sheriff Joe has had the firm belief that for the longest time, America's jail system has been nothing more than a vacation for many felons. Most jails have basketball courts, weight rooms, TV's, porno, and hot meals. It is because of this he believes that most criminals are not afraid of doing time behind bars because it's a step up from their current living conditions. So.. what better way to deter people from committing crimes than to make jail a literal living hell. Inmates are forced to live in tents in the 115+ degree weather of the Arizona desert in the summer, and freezing nights in the winter. To quote Sheriff Joe, “I will build tents to house 100,000 people before I ever let anybody out of jail early. If I have to, I will put up tents from here to Mexico.”

A great thing about these tent city prisons is that they save the taxpayers lots of money. The article I referred to above had a few numbers worth noting. According to Macadam from the The-Sun.UK, "The total cost to Arizona taxpayers was just £55,000 — compared to the typical £20million price tag for a modern British jail." Now just stop and look at that number for a minute. I was unable to find the difference between a modern American jail, but my guess is that a modern American jail is a small percentage less that a British jail. But think of the concept folks. Instead of taking months and months of manpower, labor, parts, and needed energy to create a modern prison, all Sheriff Joe needs is a tall barbed-wire fence with military style tents. Instead of letting inmates play basketball and workout, they are doing hard labor while chained. This is the kicker of the article. Britain sent some of their inmates to Sheriff Joe's prison to see what all the fuss was about. Here is what they found:

Among the Brits was maintenance worker Dan Cadwell, 27, who went off the rails following years of heavy boozing.He says: “It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. But by the end I felt good. It was like a detox — off the drink and off the dope.“My experience in Tent City was a wake-up call. It made me realise how easy crime is in Britain. “We should try some of the ideas I saw in Arizona in our jail system. My stay there really made me think. This could have a big impact on my mates who are always in and out of jail.”

Now go back to the article from Politico which says that Arizona citizens want this same type of system used for illegal immigrants. This is a fantastic idea. Here is the first paragraph from the Politico article: "Arizona state Treasurer Dean Martin, a Republican candidate for governor, called on Tuesday for the creation of statewide tent cities to house the expected increase in the number of illegal immigrants expected to be arrested under the state’s controversial new immigration law." I tell ya, it seems right now that Arizona has the smartest and brightest politicians in the country. They are easily the only ones with a little backbone. Illegals continually cross our borders because they face almost zero punishment for their crimes. There is limited risk and all reward. You can cross the border, get medical treatment, enroll in schools, get subsidized housing and food stamps with minimal chance of ever getting deported once you cross the border. Arizonans are sick and tired of being sucked dry by these mosquitoes from south of the border. If illegal immigrants get caught and are put through absolute hell like the inmates at Sheriff Joe's Tent Resort, do you think they might second guess their actions? Some wont for sure, but most will. It's beyond time that laws get put in place which make the risk-reward trade off for sneaking across the border unattractive.

"Oh but bro, we are all humans. We all live on one planet bro!" Quit smoking so much reefer so your hazy eyes can see the reality of the world we live in. The liberal, hippy ideology has a grip on so many people in my generation it makes me sick. "If you're young and not a liberal,you have no heart; if you're old and not a conservative, you have no brain." That pretty much sums up the MTV generation. Having secure borders is one of the most important things to have in order for a country to exist. Contrary to those who don't believe in showers, America is a country with borders. America has seen an explosion in prosperity since the Industrial Revolution unlike anything the world has ever seen. We want everyone to be apart of it. But, we cannot sustain prosperity if we let every man,woman and child just walk on through. We have rules and guidelines in place to give us sustainable immigration numbers. Any part of the country now that is littered with heavy concentrations of illegal immigrants is in absolute shambles (California!). It's time we put Arizona's ideas to work in the rest of this country.
