Jacksonville's influential builders lobby has weighed in on city races, releasing a list of candidates the group is endorsing in the March election.
Incumbents and former council members seeking higher office were the beneficiaries, with one exception. Northeast Florida Builder's Association declined to endorse Richard Clark, a former council president running for his second full term on the city's governing body, instead opting for his opponent, Mario Rubio.
"Councilman Clark has been an excellent public servant, but the board felt Mr. Rubio presented the best choice for the city in this race," said Michael Bourre, the organization's president.
The group had previously endorsed Mike Hogan in the mayor's race and it added another constitutional officer to the list, endorsing outgoing Councilman Michael Corrigan in the Duval County Tax Collector's race.
Bourre said many of the organization's members have been battered by the recession, but they were ready to step up with financial contributions and volunteer hours to back the candidates they felt would spur growth in the city.
State Rep. Daniel Davis, who previously served on the Jacksonville City Council, serves as the executive director of NEFBA. The full list of endorsees is:
