TU: Alvin Brown hires Cincinnati attorney to run Neighborhoods Department

I keep wondering when we have so many able people right here in Jacksonville, why Mayor Brown keeps reaching out to people who live in another city or state? Mayor Brown has done an admirable job thus far and he and the council have worked well together, but Mayor Brown seems to make choosing someone who does not even live in our city or even in Florida on a somewhat regular basis.  I would wonder what he has against using people who are familiar with Jacksonville and actually have lived here and live here now? This is a good paying job, and heaven knows we have many qualified people living right in our city I would think? Your thoughts?

A Cincinnati attorney will head up Jacksonville's Neighborhoods department, Mayor Alvin Brown said Friday, overseeing a plethora of technical divisions.

Terrance Ashanta-Barker will earn $130,000 heading up Environmental Quality, Municipal Code Compliance, Animal Care and Protective Services, Mosquito Control and Housing and Community Development.

Ashanta-Barker was most recently managing partner of an eponymous law firm in Ohio. He served on the Hamilton County Juvenile Justice Committee and the Board of Trustees for the Economics Center for Education & Research.
