TU: Day center for homeless coming to Jacksonville, Mayor Alvin Brown promises

I don't know about any of you, but I can smell another commission coming and a huge price tag in year 2 or 3 as happens with every one of these do gooder projects the city gets involved in, and in fact, right now, the city collects tax dollars from you to use for philanthopy and forces you to pay out of pocket for most of the city services you get and city services is the primary reason for having a city government to start with............otherwise, we don't need them.  City services are the primary job of city government period and if there is money left over, it should be put away for a rainy day.  This is not what has happened; our city government is now just as broken as the federal government and the state government.  Government at all levels, with few exceptions, is no longer responsive to the people they work for; they are responsive to those who contribute NOTHING to the tax base, those involved in organizations that contribute nothing (along with workers in those organizations who want to keep their jobs at the expense of the tax payers) or for those who contribute nothing to their own upkeep.  Our city has actually spent more time on things like give away programs and doggie park type boon doggles than they have trying to solve the problem that will force us into bankrupcy.............the pensions for city workers.

Mayor offers no details but says it will be open by the end of the year
April 24, 2012

Just over a year ago, Jacksonville mayoral candidate Alvin Brown stood before  a packed auditorium during the annual meeting of ICARE, a coalition of 30 area  churches.

His pledge: If elected, he would make it a priority to establish a day center  for homeless people.

Monday night, Brown — now mayor — told this year's 3,000-strong ICARE  conference that such a center was on its way.

"We will have a day center here in Jacksonville," he said. "We're going to  make it happen."

After six meetings with the ICARE homelessness committee, as well as the  Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and homeless service providers, Brown said he's  committed to having the center operating by the end of the year.

One city employee will work on the project, with other costs covered by  public-private partnerships and charitable donations.

Did the city even balance the budget from last year? Good grief, if anything we need to NOT ATTRACT HOMELESS people in our area, period.

This is so frustrating.  Our public schools are a mess, there are many other things that need attention. I knew this Mayor was not going to be a positive city manager.

Thank you Patricia for all that you do and for bringing this to our attention.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
