The father of the fired Episcopal High School teacher who police said returned to the campus, fatally shot the head of school... said his family shares Northeast Florida's grief over the loss.
"We are in shock and grieve for the loss of our son, and for the family, friends and acquaintances of Headmaster Dale Regan," Steve Schumerth of Culver, Ind., said in an email response to a Times-Union inquiry. "Our prayers go up for them and the entire Episcopal School family. We are deeply sorry this happened."
Shane Schumerth, 28, killed Head of School Dale Regan in her office before committing suicide. Police said he was fired Tuesday morning, but no details were available about his dismissal.
Shane Schumerth previously taught history and Spanish at John E. Ford Elementary in Duval County Public Schools. He also coached Ford Elementary’s debate team in 2010 before resigning from the school system that June. He began working at Episcopal in August 2010.
