TU: Jacksonville councilman talks to FDOT about help keeping ferry running

This is an update to let everyone know what is going on with the Mayport ferry.  Mr. Gulliford seems to be staying right on top of this issue, and I hope he makes some headway with saving the ferry until a private entity can be found to take it over.

Florida's Department of Transportation could still help keep the St. Johns River ferry operating despite the fact that it's no longer obligated, a Jacksonville city councilman said Thursday.

"My sense is that the DOT is willing to participate in a meaningful way," Councilman Bill Gulliford told Times-Union columnist Ron Littlepage after a conference call with the agency's secretary. The call preceded a meeting of a council committee on the ferry's future.
