Supporters of the St. Johns River Ferry Service are calling on local residents to show their support for the ferry service in a public demonstration.

President of the Heckscher Drive Community Club Bobby Taylor along with members of the Mayport Waterfront Partnership say a rally is being staged to support the Mayport ferry beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 18. Taylor said that demonstrators are wanted to stage the demonstration at the ferry docks on both sides of the St. Johns River on Heckscher Drive on Fort George Island and on Ocean Street in Mayport village.

The action to support the service comes as many are worried the funding is in peril. Jacksonville Port Authority Chief Executive Officer Paul Anderson said last month that funding could be cut.
