It might only be wishful thinking, but some widely respected Florida educators are among those being mentioned as possible candidates to become the next superintendent of Duval County Public Schools.
The names of Miami-Dade as well as Hillsborough County administrators are being bandied about as potential candidates, although they told the Times-Union that no one has approached them about applying for the Duval position. They also said they haven't contacted anyone about possibly applying for it.
The fact the School Board only just began collecting input from stakeholders including parents, teachers and community leaders, and won't even hire an executive search firm until next month, hasn't deterred suggestions or speculation.
"I've had a couple of inquiries. People asking who might be a good superintendent for Duval County," said Dan Domenech, executive director of the American Association of School Administrators, who wouldn't say who asked him or whom he recommended.
