Jacksonville's City Council meets at 5 p.m. today at City Hall, 117 W. Duval St. These are some of the items the council is scheduled to consider:
Issue: Xomed expansion
What it means: Medical instrument maker Medtronic Xomed is asking for up to $1.6 million in financial incentives for adding 175 jobs here instead of in Fort Worth, Texas.
Bill No. 2011-485
Issue: Belton appointment
What it means: Ronnie Belton, Mayor Alvin Brown's choice to be Jacksonville's new chief financial officer, faces a confirmation vote by the council.
Bill No. 2011-498
Issue: Pension study
What it means: The council could decide whether to move forward on an actuarial study on the city pension fund. The study could lead to a recommendation for the city to pay close to $6 million more into the fund, and the Mayor's Office would rather delay the matter.
