Well, it is official, you no longer have freedom of religion. Sebelius has over ridden your religious freedom.

Well, it is official, you no longer have freedom of religion.  The president and his charming head of health and human services have decided they will define what you can believe in and do.  And Ms Sebelius thinks she has struck a balance between our religious liberty and ????   No in a Chicago heart beat!  She has told people she doesn't care what they believe in, they will provide contraception and other birth control measures no matter their religious beliefs, but then again, most of the folks Obama put in positions could hardly be called Christians (including him), so they wouldn't care much about someone else's beliefs.  I guess what I question the most is:  Who exactly is Ms. Sebelius to be telling anyone what they can believe or not believe in?

Dear CV Friend,

Get ready to pay.

This morning President Obama called New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan to break the news.

Secretary of Health and Human Services and pro-abortion Catholic Kathleen Sebelius just announced that the proposed mandate requiring all insurance plans to pay for contraception, sterilization and some abortion drugs is official -- and Catholics cannot escape.

...and the fig-leaf exemption for religious groups will not be modified, apart from allowing some groups an additional year to comply.

Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan responded minutes ago, saying: “In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences.”

Beginning August 1, 2012 (less than eight months from today), the insurance premiums we pay, including the insurance premiums paid by Catholics for employees of churches and schools -- will be used to cover drugs and procedures that are in direct conflict with the teachings of our Church.

That's right. Our government will now force us to pay for insurance coverage for birth control, sterilization and even some abortion drugs.

President Obama ignored the organized efforts of Catholics across the country, including bold statements from the Bishops, university presidents (including Notre Dame's Rev. Jenkins), and even his Catholic allies like Sr. Carol Keehan.

Instead, President Obama stood with his real friends -- Planned Parenthood.

Make no mistake, this decision is a direct attack on you, our Church, and the religious liberty of all Americans.

Just yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI addressed the bishops from the United States who were completing their "Ad Limina" visit in Rome. The Holy Father specifically cited the "grave threats" to the freedom of the Church in America, and urged the Catholic community to respond, especially with "an engaged, articulate and well-formed Catholic laity."

He's talking to you and me. The Holy Father's brief address is a must read (link below).

Finally, today marks exactly one year from Inauguration Day. In exactly 12 months, America will welcome a new president, or usher in four more years of Barack Obama and his assault on our liberties. This irony is not lost on us.

We built CatholicVote into a movement to advance the cause of life, family, and freedom. Today's decision is an assault on all three. And it MUST be defeated.

You have our pledge that we will do everything possible to educate and mobilize the Catholic vote in 2012.

For on a day such as this, we realize that elections indeed have consequences.

The Catholic vote must rise up like never before.

Sincerely,

Brian Burch, President

A statement by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

In August 2011, the Department of Health and Human Services issued an interim final rule that will require most health insurance plans to cover preventive services for women including recommended contraceptive services without charging a co-pay, co-insurance or a deductible. The rule allows certain non-profit religious employers that offer insurance to their employees the choice of whether or not to cover contraceptive services. Today the department is announcing that the final rule on preventive health services will ensure that women with health insurance coverage will have access to the full range of the Institute of Medicine’s recommended preventive services, including all FDA -approved forms of contraception. Women will not have to forego these services because of expensive co-pays or deductibles, or because an insurance plan doesn’t include contraceptive services. This rule is consistent with the laws in a majority of states which already require contraception coverage in health plans, and includes the exemption in the interim final rule allowing certain religious organizations not to provide contraception coverage. Beginning August 1, 2012, most new and renewed health plans will be required to cover these services without cost sharing for women across the country.

After evaluating comments, we have decided to add an additional element to the final rule. Nonprofit employers who, based on religious beliefs, do not currently provide contraceptive coverage in their insurance plan, will be provided an additional year, until August 1, 2013, to comply with the new law. Employers wishing to take advantage of the additional year must certify that they qualify for the delayed implementation. This additional year will allow these organizations more time and flexibility to adapt to this new rule. We intend to require employers that do not offer coverage of contraceptive services to provide notice to employees, which will also state that contraceptive services are available at sites such as community health centers, public clinics, and hospitals with income-based support. We will continue to work closely with religious groups during this transitional period to discuss their concerns.

Scientists have abundant evidence that birth control has significant health benefits for women and their families, it is documented to significantly reduce health costs, and is the most commonly taken drug in America by young and middle-aged women. This rule will provide women with greater access to contraception by requiring coverage and by prohibiting cost sharing.

This decision was made after very careful consideration, including the important concerns some have raised about religious liberty. I believe this proposal strikes the appropriate balance between respecting religious freedom and increasing access to important preventive services. The administration remains fully committed to its partnerships with faith-based organizations, which promote healthy communities and serve the common good. And this final rule will have no impact on the protections that existing conscience laws and regulations give to health care providers.

I have been following this the last day or so, and I might say, people know what the conditions of employment are when they accept a job and by accepting that job, you agree to those terms.  If you don't agree with the terms and conditions, you don't accept it.  When you decide to work for the Catholic church, you know they are prolife totally.  So, now Amanda, you think all Catholics should have their right to worship as they please and as guaranteed in the constitution revoked by a dictator in the white house and his friends, so that people can have the working conditions he believes in even though it violates the rights are far more individuals.........................and the problem I have with this is that it is only the foot in the door.  Christians are being attacked in this country in case you have not noticed.  How long before he give Muslims a standing that is superior (which he pretty much has at this point) and outlaws Christianity.  Wouldn't we then be exactly where the people who came here to escape religious persecution and a religion being forced on them or are you too busy thinking about a small group of people this violation of the constitution will allow to get birth control bills or whatever?  I am thinking the big picture and this ruling by these folks was meant to violate the constitution and define the religious beliefs of on group of people.  That this does not bother you is very worrisome.

The states regulate health insurance and always have. That is why you can't buy across state lines. Same for your car. An insurer has to be domestic, within a given state. But once again I will side with individuals freedoms and to an extent I must rely on either corporations to do the right thing or someone to referee the match and ensure it is kept fair. Unfortunately the ref has been bought and paid for.

Roma and Tom, that is the problem, there is no option for employees in most companies to upgrade their coverage. They are stuck with plans that cover little, big deductibles and co-pays.
If one was a seventh Day Adventist should they be allowed to exclude blood transfusions from their employees coverage? Circumcisions not covered? Psychological counseling?

It is one of the reasons I think we have find another way to deliver health insurance. Employers aren't equipped and have conflicting interests.
The Republican debate is in Jax next week, how do you get tix?

I think that if the Catholic church wants to keep its employees from using birth control, which is certainly within its rights, they should do so by teaching not by economic harm. So now the woman who cooks in the school cafeteria is afforded the same access to birth control as others.
I prefer to protect the rights of the individual over the institution. Church doctrine is seperate from public policy. Churches teach faith and the tenets of their particular group, those do not then become public policy.

This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
