I was almost 40 before I got around to college. In the 22 years after I left high school the education standards had already slipped considerably.
One of my old teachers explained her theory of education, teach a kid to read and then turn on their imagination and curiosity. I doubt that is the practice now, everyone is too busy meeting federal mandates.
I won't argue with modern teachers, kids are getting an "education". It isn't broad however, and it too often stops when they leave class.
Alvin no doubt memorized enough to graduate, but does he understand what he memorized? Has he ever learned anything not directly connected to survival, just because he wanted to?
We have a lot of folks in politics now who can't change a lightbulb without directional arrows printed on the end
It is time to stop trusting our Nation to them.

I really almost feel sorry for Alvin, he has jumped into something he doesn't understand. He knows that something is wrong, but he doesn't know the what and why of it.
There are a lot of Alvins running around out there.
