$629,000 FOR ART WORK IN THE COURTHOUSE or 2011-0026

That header is likely enough to get anyone's blood boiling.

The objection to art in the courthouse is that the courthouse is already outrageous and it is not necessary.

There are old courthouse all over the world that have no artwork.

If the people insist, and lobby for there to be artwork in public places then here are some suggestions:

Why can't we get some donations?  JU donated a piece for the TU center and Brunos donated the  money to cover the cost of cleaning it.  There are some well healed attorneys who work in that building wouldn't it be nice if they donated some artwork and created a small fund to clean it as needed.  It can have a nice plaque next to it..Donated by Barrister X ; next time  you fall give us a call 555-1221.

Why can't we have local artists donate some of their work?

Why can't we do what the library  does and have temporary exhibits; provided the costs are covered by those who wish to have their work exhibited?

Every public building could be a venue by which local artist can get exposure.

Of course there would  have to be some considerations for public decency but we already have an Arts in Public places board or commission.  Why can't they review them and make that decision; so long as there is a very specific criteria for judging what is decent?

To all those who are spreading the word....

THANK YOU.

I have two more suggestions.

If anyone has the email address for Chief Judge Moran; can they send me an email.  I think that we should enlist his aid or expose him if he is insistent that the art be procured.  He is the one who informed city council of the 5 million shortfall in the judicial systems budget for this year and the projected shortfall of about 12 for the following year.  SO.....that means that he is going to have to lay off some clerks.  Is art really all that important when people are getting a pink slip?  The money is part of a bond issue under the Better Jacksonville Plan and I don't know how it could be transfered but waivers are done all the time for projects that benefit a council member or his constituency so why not one here?

The second idea is to start cc'ing the Mayor's office on all letter sent to city council.  JPeyton@coj.net is his email address.     Here is a part of an email sent to a friend of mine concerning this bill.

I had a conversation with representatives from the Mayor's office last week.  I am looking into the proposed legislation and we will take no action until all concerns are addressed and, if appropriate, resolved.  Thank you for your input and participation.
Looks like pressure might be coming from the Mayor's office.  He needs to be in the loop and share the heat.  I have heard comments about the Mayor pressuring the council in the past.
Those are my little thought on the process.  Honing skills as I go and hoping that they will have the desired effect.
Thanks for all the support.  Y'all are fantastic!

Dawn:

Thank you for your email.  You make some good points.  I also find the expenditure troublesome, and look forward to learning more specifics (about it) when the matter comes before committees.

OMG,

I was one of the thousands that attended the Budget meeting of the City Council, They stood up there and told us that the City was broke, they had went through the entire budget and could not find any place they could cut.

Now comes a bill to spend $629,000.00 on artwork for the Court House.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have been lied too, made afool of, and treated like "Red headed step children".

I have called my councilman and all 5 of the at large, councilmen, to express my total dissatisfaction with this entire process.

We must, vote them ALL OUT!

Please call them today.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
