Dear Mrs. Gawlik:
Thank you for sharing your views on the Federal budget. I have long been committed to getting Federal spending under control, going back to my support for a balanced budget in the 1980s.
It is important that we look at all areas of Federal spending to find new ways to reduce the nation’s nearly $14 trillion debt. That’s why last year I voted for an across-the-board cap on discretionary spending through 2014, and recently voted to ban earmarks for three years. Furthermore, I cosponsored the Bipartisan Task Force for Responsible Fiscal Action Act, which would have created a streamlined process to vote on deficit reduction proposals.
Early in 2010, the President commissioned a group of elected officials and private citizens from across the political spectrum to find bipartisan solutions to our fiscal challenges. The group released a plan to cut Federal deficits by $3.9 trillion over the next decade, but failed to reach final consensus on the proposals. As a member of the Budget Committee, I will closely examine these proposals and others, as I continue to look for common ground that will advance the interests of Florida and the nation.
I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter. As the Senate considers appropriations bills and measures to reduce the deficit, I will work to ensure that spending reflects the values and priorities of Floridians. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.
Sincerely,
Senator Bill Nelson

****************************************************
This is a out and out lie, Senator Bill Nelson voted for almost over 5 TRILLION dollars in spending between 2007 and 2010 that has increased our debt to over a third more in just under 4 years.
He almost always sides with the Progressive Liberals while saying that he is a blue dog Democrat which he is clearly not.
He voted for the 2009 Stimulus/American Reinvestment and Recovery Act/bill, he voted for the 2010 Health Care Reform Bill along with many other out of control, unaccountable spending bills. He supported the Fast Rail Train in Florida and is still pursuing funding even though people have asked him not to and our Governor Rick Scott turned it down for obvious reasons.
He could of voted against ALL the above, especially since he states that he has been for a balance budget since the 1980's.
One has to question, does he even read the bills that he votes for? IF he does then he was clearly aware of the deeply hidden 105 plus billion dollars illegally appropriated money to start up the Health Care Reform bill that Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama purposely hid and did not tell Congress it was in there nor did they go through the proper procedure to put in the bill.
That is unconscionable.
He also signed that bill, knowing that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi cooked the figures to get a positive CBO rating by using the 500 BILLION dollars that is being taken away from our Seniors Medicare program, twice as a credit which is clearly unethical and a abuse of power and out and out lying to Congress and the American people.
That is unconscionable.
This man is an out of control elected representative who does not listen to his constituents. He only recently voted against ear marks to protect himself from loosing votes in the upcoming 2012 elections. If you look at his PAC account you will clearly see who he listens to, his whole voting record was all about earmarks, no accountability and all about his special interests, not about his constituents, not about Floridians or our seniors but about his political career.
His actions speak a LOT louder than his words, and i for one am going to work very hard to vote him out of office so we can be represented by a honorable, honest, truthful candidate that actually will listen to their constituents and help return our government BY, OF and FOR THE PEOPLE. One that will uphold his oath of office and stand up on principles and values, one that has a true moral compass.
