ACTION ITEM: CONTACT THE MAYOR AND CC MEMBERS:

BIG CITY MAYORS and THE ACA

For clarification there are 2 related items here and I have combined the stories and the questions to be asked. (Jacksonville involvement in the promotion of the ACA and the meeting of the Mayor's in DC.)

Please read carefully.

Thought you might all find this interesting since our mayor is in the group of big city "progressive" mayors that plan to push progressive policies via legislation and heavy handed policies. It becomes very clear that our Mayor Alvin Brown is a progressive and certainly not what he promoted himself as.
And yes, we must work to vote him out of our city in November!
If you haven't written to your city council member about our money being spent to promote a federal program (health care), please do as I plan to. The state of Florida refused to put in the exchange and fought against Obamacare. It may be the law but most of us do not want any of our local tax dollars used to promote this nightmare since way too many of our federal tax dollars are already being used.
Why is our mayor bringing Obamacare sign up to our area instead of working on getting a reasonable contract worked out with the unions so our city doesn't go bankrupt?
Why does he waste our time and money (we pay his salary)?
We all need to be on our guard against the strategy of using the local government as mentioned in the article to be sure we are ready to fight back!

Here is an article related to Jacksonville's support to promote sign up for the FEDERAL "ObamaCare" program.

CITY OF JACKSONVILLE PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY HEALTH GROUPS TO PROMOTE MARKETPLACE ENROLLMENT
Health Initiatives Include Enrollment Events Throughout Jacksonville Until March 31 Deadline

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 22, 2014 – The City of Jacksonville announced today a new partnership with health care proponents and non-profits to give First Coast residents the opportunity to find out about the affordable health insurance plans available to them on the marketplace. Along with Get Covered America, the City of Jacksonville will coordinate with the office of State Representative Mia Jones, the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, the Sulzbacher Center, the Epilepsy Foundation, and Agape Health Center Network to spread the word about financial assistance and one-on-one help available to consumers who are shopping for a health care plan.

“The health of our city depends on the health of our people,” said Mayor Alvin Brown. “It’s important that Jacksonville residents have access to the information and assistance that will help them choose the quality, affordable health insurance that best fits their needs and budgets.”
The coalition will be hosting events up until the March 31 deadline across Duval County, starting with an event at Legends Community Center (5130 Soutel Drive -- 32208) this Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Trained representatives will be available to aid in the application and enrollment process for the selection of the optimal health insurance plan. All plans will cover key benefits like preventative care, hospital visits, and prescriptions.

“We’re proud to be working with the City of Jacksonville and Mayor Brown to make sure its residents get the opportunity to enroll in quality, affordable health coverage,” said Get Covered America State Director Nicholas Duran. “We know that while there were issues back in October, things have improved a great deal and people are enrolling. It’s on us to make sure they know about the financial help and experts that can help them cover their family.”

Before the Oct. 1 launch of the health insurance Marketplace, there were approximately 157,000 uninsured residents in Duval County that could now benefit from options on the health insurance marketplace. Florida has led the nation in enrollees among all states with a federally run marketplace with a nearly nine-fold increase in consumers who have selected a plan in the health insurance Marketplace.

About Get Covered America
Get Covered America is a national campaign of Enroll America that is focused on educating consumers about the benefits of health coverage and the new health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act. With operations in eleven states (AZ, FL, GA, IL, MI, NC, NJ, OH, PA, TN and TX), our grassroots team is powered by passionate staff and volunteers with one motivating goal: to give Americans the information they need to choose an affordable care

health insurance plan that’s right for them and their families.

Now we have the information related to a recent meeting between the President and Mayor's from around the country.

The statement : “They reportedly came away from the cabal with a giddy belief that an era of liberalism will soon sweep the country, and they will be guiding the way.” From a meeting with a President who has bypassed Congress and declares his power via executive order should make all of us uncomfortable.

Is this an example where if the Federal Government cannot get done what it needs to at their level then they will harness the local Mayor's around the country?

ACTION ITEM:
So, what do we do? We take the time to contact our Mayor and each City Council member and let them know that we are aware of the city working with other agencies to promote the Affordable Care Act and the meeting “Of the Mayors” in DC. And we let them know that we will be watching any and all activity related to running our city with a PEN and a PHONE. That we have a governance process and that we the people will ensure that it is followed.

ASK THEM WHY the local government has to " develop a new partnership with health care proponents and non-profits to give First Coast residents the opportunity to find out about the affordable health insurance plans available to them on the marketplace." and where the money comes from to do this?

AND

Be sure to share the two links above in your email so that they understand that we are aware and we are watching and do not expect them to promote the progressive agenda of the President with our tax dollars.

Really sad, isn't it Wayne.  These people ran for office, and there was never anything said about doing whatever they wanted towards the end of their term should they decide not to run again or get beat out in a primary.  You would think they cared enough about what they were doing to see it through in a manner they could be proud of.............but not so for many of them.

Comment by Wayne Humphrey on January 27, 2014 at 6:38pm

As far as CC is concerned, Doug Conkey of district 2 is not running again and has become impervious to his constituents. Hopefully, our next rep will be better.

The law, these days, seems only to be a side note to most of the elected officials on all levels.

The mayor has seen fit to tax us via raising our already too-high utility bills for the purpose of funding retired people (those no longer 'working')...people who already made (make) more than the median income of those in the private sector.  I say: no payout to those not working, that includes the unemployed, who no longer are looking for (or accepting) work.

Comment by robert c tipton on January 25, 2014 at 3:19pm

I am at a loss as to why we the people have to remind our elected officials over something that is  so damn obvious-Do they just respond to the screams of the mob ?MLK was right in his approach--you get things done by organized civil disobedience even if you get arrested-which he was many times We are no longer a country of laws  --we are governed by traitors and thugs. It is long time past to bring this travesty to an end. Our forefathers did not end tyranny at the ballot box.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
