We had to leave Orlando before the totals of the GOP’s Presidency 5 straw ballot were announced.  As we drove home, our cells filled up with text messages – Cain won -- and calls from home rang out in disbelief.  Herman Cain, former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, and a low man on the establishment’s radar, exceeded the combined total for Perry who came in second at 15 percent and Romney who came in third at 14 percent.  Cain won by a landslide at 37.1% of the votes!

Herman Cain has been a favorite of the tea party since the tea party formed in 2009.  He’s spoken at rallies and his radio shows were filled with tea party talking points about less government, free markets and moral leadership.   Herman has had a following of loyal tea party members because he tells it like it is, doesn’t hold any punches and is a rock, solid conservative.  He was a Tea Party Member before the tea party formed.

The irony of this win took me back to about a year ago.  I had been invited to attend a very prestigious event for DC conservatives in a beautiful resort.  I was asked to speak there on behalf of the Tea Party Movement.  After the April 2009’s large tea party rallies across America, we were getting requests to speak at these large gatherings of DC insiders.  We think it was because they were intrigued with this outpouring of citizen activists.  I knew they wanted me to come with a sign in hand, buttons with crazy sayings on them and tea bags hanging from a large hat.  I usually left that stuff at home and came dressed as a “normal” person instead.  It took them off guard because the perception of what a Tea Party Member might look like or act like never materialized.

At this specific event, Herman Cain was there.  I had already met Herman at a prior event and was thrilled to see him there.  He was just beginning to talk about running for President.   He was there to meet the DC insiders and start his talks with them about his potential run.   They were cordial and everyone was professional.  What I noticed, however, was a lack of belief that Herman would make it.  The cocktail talk went something like this:  “He’s a nice guy.”  “He has a radio show, I believe.”  “He was the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.”  “He has a long way to go to win.”  “He’ll have a hard time getting funding.”  They all liked him but they didn’t think he stood a chance against their guy at the time, Mitt Romney.  I remember standing in this beautiful resort among all the DC insiders and wondering why Herman didn’t stand a chance.  He was a great guy, a former successful CEO, he was well-polished and well-spoken and he was “real.”

As a newbie to politics, I had a hard time understanding why Herman could not win the endorsement of the DC insiders.  And I wondered if we would have another 2008 win for Obama IF we continued business as usual in the GOP.  The thought of that scared me and it should scare all of us.  If Obama wins the 2012 election, we will finish our travels to Socialism, USA and our lives will never be the same again.

We have never stopped pouring tea since the first tea party event in 2009.  Two and a half years later as the jobs disappear, the Tea Party Movement grows.  Two and a half years later, as the media and Hollywood continues to call us names, the Tea Party Movement grows.  Two and a half years later, as we watch our country destroyed by corruption and greed, the Tea Party Movement grows.  Two and a half years later, as we came together at a GOP establishment event, the Tea Party Movement sent a message  -- “Times they are a changing and the people are in charge.”

The people are rising up and the message is loud and clear – we want our government to leave us alone.  We want them to get out of the way so we can rebuild America from the mess they have made.  We want a leader who has the heart of the people.  We want someone who loves America and all it stands for.  We want someone who has worked hard and lived the American dream.  We want someone who respects us.  We want someone who is not an insider – we want someone who has been out here with us.

There were others on the stage who resonated with the Tea Party Movement too.  But last night, Florida sent a message that the pack is narrowing and a real leader is emerging.  As the GOP said the week before this straw poll – “Whoever wins this poll, will win the Republican Party’s nomination for President.”

That has been the history of this straw poll.  Will history repeat itself?

The months ahead to 2012 will be paved with political maneuverings by strategic campaign consultants.  The media, too, will do their part to downplay this straw poll message.  It has already begun with William Kristol, a DC media insider.  He refused to give Cain the win and stated it was more a vote against the GOP instead of a vote for Cain.  (See the article here:  Sorry Cain, this is a vote against the GOP).  This will be the strategy of consultants and the media.  We wish them well as they blindly refuse to accept the American people are tired of playing games and they are taking their country back.

Miracles still happen and America saw one last night.  Herman Cain, an underdog and a Tea Party favorite, handed the flame of liberty back to the people.  It felt good to be a part of a miracle.

One of our friends in the car said, “Yes, We Cain!” as the text message came through.

Obama stole our “can” from us.  Will Cain make America able again?

We wish Herman well and all the others who stand for less government, free markets and moral leadership.  The road to 2012 will be paved with good intentions but what we really want is more than intentions – we want results.  The leader who can make results happen will get our votes.

Ken Stump:

Herman Cain describes his 999 Plan here, offering a comparison with the tax reform plans proposed by the other candidates:

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/26/economic-crisis-requi...

Cain's full proposal from his campaign site including Phase One (999 Plan) and Phase Two (The FairTax)

If you're not familiar with the FairTax, The FairTax Book by Neal Boortz and John Linder is a good start. Or, you can go to the Americans For Fair Taxation site:

And by others opinions I mean things like( doing some paraphrasing here ) insert supposed frontunners name here  basicly sucks ,Ron Pauls the man.Kinda hard not to assume someones partial to Paul after that ,which again is fine if you are.But I just don't feel that our side absolutely ripping each candidate apart is very helpful for anyones cause, well besides the lefts cause. Not saying that you were the one doing the ripping either but it is out there and it can poison each and every candidate we have INCLUDING Ron Paul.

I have no disagreement with knowing about each candidate.Never said I did.I posted my opinion on the other posts here based on what I've seen. And I have no links to post because I based my opinions on what others OPINIONS were that were posted on other sites I happen to read. And thank you for mentioning that all have flaws.Because we all remember Saul Alinsky's 4th rule don't we ? " Make the enemy live up to thier own book of  rules , you can kill them with this, for they can no more obey thier own rules than the christian church can live up to it's christianity" You know the reason why this rule works so well ? Because it puts negative attention on your opponent and points out all the ways in which they are not perfect. This is the mentality that we will be facing with our next candidate in this most important election. If we mess it up we get another 4 years of Obama, and I'm not real sure that this country could survive that disaster.Lets not do the job for the left is all I'm saying.Seems like there's quite a few places on the internet where supposedly "our"people are more than happy to assist the left with the alinsky process.

Re:  Ken Stump's post..."Wake up people...You are being played for fools."

Mr. Stump, that is a rude and demeaning comment.  Since you just joined this Tea Party site last Thursday, it appears that you have admonished those who don't share YOUR beliefs. If you are an authority, perhaps you could enlighten us with your qualifications and background - and perhaps post a picture...It's far too easy to post comments anonymously.  And let's hear about the candidate that you do support.

I am grateful to Billie for all her hard work and for this post. Since reading it I have watched several more videos of Mr. Cain, some from years ago, and I am quite impressed by Mr. Cain at this point in time.  However, I don't presume to have all the answers or know who my final choice would be.  I am learning about the candidates - they all have pros and cons.  For those who don't care for or support Mr. Cain, I would encourage you to post POSITIVE comments on the candidate(s) you are supporting at this point - and then make some comparisons -rather than angry criticisms.

The Tea Party gets enough vicious attacks fom the media...let's work to make this site a peaceful place to share information and ideas.  Many of us are attempting to LEARN about ALL the candidates, in a non-threatening environment, so that we can make good and informed choices.

Good point there, Tracy, because we conservatives need to remain united for the time when the attack comes from the opposition and their lapdog MSM.  We all should know the attacks will be unrelenting and nasty if the past is prologue.  I refuse to sit out the election if "my conservative" doesn't get the nomination...McCain was not my choice but he got my vote because not voting is a vote for the opposition, the worst of all worlds.  Remember the recent Duval mayoral election where 300,000 voters did not vote!!

Hmmm..... It seems a little bit early to be hatin' on Herman Cain already.I've gone through and read the posts here and I must say I have to take some with a grain of salt.I have read posts like these elsewhere that were clearly posted by Ron Paul voters. Not that there is anything wrong with Ron Paul,I'm sure he's a very nice man personally and he does have some good ideas. But it seems that some of his more dedicated followers practically break thier necks trying to tear down any new frontrunner candidate on the repub side that isn't him.I think that maybe,  just maybe, we should give all the candidates a chance to show us what the've got before ripping them to shreds,or at the very least let them enjoy a congratulatory post for winning a very important poll.

I think it is funny to see that the Senate passed the bill to avoid a Government shutdown when FEMA happened to find the millions it already had and really did not need the money for emergency releif.

GIVE ME A BREAK.

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and the government is filled with liars AND CHEATS!! NO WONDER WE ARE GOING BROKE.

WHO IS AUDITING THESE JERKS.

This was a major reason why the REPLUBLICAN CONGRESS should have listened to it TEA Party members not to raised the debt ceiling. The money is there. An AUDIT SHOULD AND MUST BE TAKEN ON ALL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS and money will be found.

I think Hermans upset and the low rating of the Senate and Congress TODAY made this money appear .We are putting the pressure and FEAR TACTICS that this administration  uses on us BACK on all of them....ELECTION TIME IS COMING ,their day in court is coming AND THEY WILL ALL BE VOTED OUT!!!! ...HAVE A NICE DAY!

I'd rather vote for Heman Cain than Obama. Obama's heritage is from Kenya. Half Kenyan and half white. Herman Cain is a full pledge true Black American, and he is a conservative. Its time for those Republican/conservative blacks who voted for Obama in 2008 to regroup and go back into their conservative values. I understand the logic very well, that you have to patronize and supports your own race including my Hero Colin Powell who voted for Obama in 2008. Obama fail to deliver his promises. Adios.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
