Support Chick-fil-A today!!!!!!!! I hear that the lines started early this morning all over Jacksonville. Time to get out and support them..When did it NOT become okay for any business to state their postion on their companies values??

The following is from the Huff Post - Religion:

Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and Fox News host, has had enough of what he called the "vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry" aimed at Chick-fil-A.

On his Facebook page, Huckabee announced that Aug. 1 will be "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," a day on which he is encouraging people to patronize the fast food chain.

SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE

The former presidential candidate is upset that the fast food chicken chain has been the target of criticism in the wake of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's saying last week that his company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit."

The National Organization for Marriage, a group organized to oppose same-sex marriage, called him a "corporate hero for marriage," while others were quick to condemn his comments.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino even went so far as to tell the Boston Herald that "Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston."

"You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population," he said, according to the Herald. "We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion."

And on Friday, the Jim Henson Company, the group behind "The Muppets" and "Fraggle Rock," released a statement saying it has "notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors." Jim Henson's "Creature Shop" toys are currently available in the company's kid's meals.

Huckabee further explained the purpose of his pro-Chick-fil-A campaign on his Facebook Page:

The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1. Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we're considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant.

State Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Texas) and the group Concerned Women for America have promoted the event, which is not affiliated with Chick-fil-A.

Huckabee's full statement about "Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day" is on his website

The Wright brother contacted the National Weather Service to locate the best place in the US to experiment, used government property to conduct their fist flight, and subsequent development was protected by government patents, further development was also financed by government contracts with the Army during WWI as was subsequent aircraft developmentlargely advanced by military funded research and needs.

The US nearly lost the War of 1812 due to lack of ability to move the army to meet the enemy, prompting the first federal involvement in road building, leading to the national road, federal highway system, and culminating in the Interstate highway system. This, along with military needs for transportation is what built Ford and GM. Even Kings Road here in Jacksonville was a government project.

Many modern medical advances were a government effort to ensure that young men were medically conditioned for military service.

The other items (for better or worse) were government projects that would not even exist without government involvement.

Agree with both Ken and John, government has had a long, long time to do it right, failing at each step.   In some ways, Ken's viewpoint explains John's list of failures...  "We the people", are as Ken stated, for the most part ignorant, returning career politicians to DC decade after decade after decade,  who care only about their power, fame and riches.

Government doesn't DO (when will people understand that?) anything except TAKE our money and give it to another entity.  Success of any government run program exists due to the American spirit and intelligence... and PAID for by the rest of us...  And then the gov't employee gets to retire and be paid for the rest of their lives to do nothing... bankrupting us (ie. Post Office)

The old lyrics seem to be coming true.. "times, they are a changin'"... Ted Cruz was at 2% in the polls and won...  the American public stood up by the millions to support free speech..  these are good things.

If Mayors Emmanuel and Menino had not made their public statements and waved their governmental power-wands to ban ChicFilA from their cities, this would not have reached the magnitude of public reaction and response.  In my opinion, it isn't about marriage, it's not about religion, it is about a private business owner having a personal opinion and stating it to the public... all within his freedom of speech.

If we dislike a private owners' viewpoint we don't have to patronize their company.  Just like if we dislike what a Board of Directors believe we don't have to patronize a corporation.  And, when a powermonger like Mayor Emmanuel or Mayor Menino make this type of decision, their constituents have the same choice, vote them out or let them stay..

Freedom of speech is just that, freedom to say whatever stupid thing you want... but the real freedom comes when those listening get to choose what their personal response will be.

....and John you are wrong about govenment. Govenment throughout the ages has transformed the world. From the aqueducts to landing on Mars, most of our greatest advances have come from a government. To wit:

Ken, let's just eliminate Muslims from the conversation then. It isn't important. The point simply is this. If we are really talking about marriage, and "protecting" it from whatever, I believe, as I think is clear, that it is a lemming. That what we are really talking about here is prejudice. Which is fine, but lets call it what it is and stop pretending it is something else. So that way when guys like Rahm Emanuel says he doesn't want companies like Chik-fil-A in Chicago, then we can have a trruly intellectually honest discussion.

Chik-Fil-A's prejudice doesn't mean that a mayor gets to keep them out. Because then otherwise we would have to keep out the Catholic Church also, because they think gay marriage is a sin. Don't hear any mayors saying they think the Catholic Church should stop being prejudiced.

John, The point: The proposition Mr. Cathy makes is that gay marriage threatens traditional marriage.

My point is this, Massachusetts has a lower divorce rate than states that don not allow gay marriage, so it apparently does not hurt traditional marriage.

The other point is that libertarians could give a fig as to who marries who. The government is mighty illequipped to start making morals a part of their workload.

Comment by amanda choate on August 3, 2012 at 11:37am

Ken, On Muslims, women may not seek the divorce, only the husband or a male from her family. Catholics do have annulments available to them, but really they are just payoffs to the church. If you do not have the money, no annulment. And these are granted even if there are children, which makes them bastards in the eyes of the church. So most Catholics choose not pursue an annulment on these grounds if there are children.

So I went to the website recommended by Ken and sure enough, they don't think there should be any limits on gay marriage. It is right there in their platform. So if I find that contrary to position of the Tea Party, then I must have missed big time.

Here is the platform statement:

1.3 Personal Relationships

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.

Now Roma and Tom and John, Where is my mistake here? You tell me. Is this the same policy postion of the Tea Party???

John, what is your point?

Roma, seriously, what is the libertarian postion on gay marriage?

This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
