In the movie, Rocky III, Eye of the Tiger was the title song.  This song came to mind as I read about another sucker punch to the Constitution by our President.   Once again, he is ignoring the rule of law and stomping on the Constitution because he wants to win the fight between Socialism and a government of We the People.

In Heritage’s Morning Bell yesterday, it stated:  “Last week, President Barack Obama took the latest step on his road toward an arrogant, new authoritarianism with four illegal appointments that entirely trampled on the Constitution's requirements. More troubling still, the President chose to shred the Constitution all in the name of serving his Big Labor agenda while killing jobs in the process.”  Read the entire report here:  Overstepping his Authority 

I was not alone in my thoughts of an out of control President.  Here was Heritage speaking what many of us in the tea party movement were feeling.  Sometimes we feel as if we are the audience watching a fight in the ring.  We have surrounded the ring yelling for our guys on the right.  The left has their bully beating them up right before our eyes and he just keeps coming at them one punch at a time.

We are in the audience, screaming.  We are standing to our feet.  We are yelling at the referee do something and make sure the left is playing fair.  The left isn’t playing fair.  They are dirty.  They cheat.  They lie.  They ignore the rules. They will do anything they can to make sure the right never rises again.  All the while, judges playing the part of referee are not doing their part to keep the game fair.

In one scene from the movie, Rocky is confronted by his former nemesis Apollo Creed.  He offers to help train Rocky for a rematch with Lang in exchange for a “big” favor.  Rocky is pretty beat up and demoralized.  Apollo is frustrated that Rocky has no drive anymore.  Somehow Rocky finds the strength to keep going and accepts Apollo’s help.  The rematch is held and Rocky sprints from his corner with vigor.  Lang doesn’t like it and throws a fit, a temper tantrum, with his trainers.  Lang comes back and gains the upper hand again.  But Rocky decides to use a different strategy and pretends to be taken down by Lang.  Lang keeps punching and Rocky waits for Lang to wear himself out and then Rocky sees his chance and takes Lang down with punch after punch on a tired and worn out Lang.  Rocky eventually wins but he doesn’t do it alone.  He needed Apollo to help him.  He needed Apollo to give him the encouragement to go forward.

In the following scene from Rocky III, Apollo says these words:

“We held the greatest title in the whole world, baby.  We lost that title for all the wrong reasons.  You lost your edge.  When we fought, you had the Eye of the Tiger, the edge.  And now you got to get it back.  The way to get it back is to go back to the beginning.  You know what I mean?  (Laugh)  Maybe we can get it back together?  Eye of the Tiger man.”

Imagine this – Rocky represents the guys on the right – the guys holding the keys to Congress.  Apollo is the tea party.  The American Republic is the greatest government in the world.  We have lost our edge and we see the GOP in Congress down for the count. 

The tea party is not the enemy.  We are offering to help the GOP in Congress and together we can beat the left.  We can encourage them.  We can support them.  We can stand with them.  We just need the GOP to stop the pity party, get off the mat, and use their muscles. They must go back to the party they were before they lost their zeal.  They must stand up for the Constitution and fight to secure the blessings of liberty for all the audience members – We the People. 

Please contact your member of Congress TODAY (http://www.house.gov/) and tell them – “It’s time to use your muscles, get off the mat and regain the title of a Free Republic.  You must believe and go back to the beginning.  The beginning was what our founding fathers gave us – the Constitution.  Start there and stand up for it.”   Ask them what they are going to do about this.  We can’t wait for the courts to decide.  The referee may not be in our corner!  The time for the fight is now…today.

At the end of the movie, Rocky fulfills Apollo's "big favor": a private rematch with him. The film concludes with both of the fighters throwing their first punch at the same time, but this time, they fight in the spirit of friendly competition rather than as fierce rivals. 

Wouldn’t it be nice to see the GOP and the tea party in the ring together as they celebrate the saving of the Republic?  It can happen but right now we are the audience and you, GOP, are in the ring.  We’re willing to help and scream for your victory.  Are you willing to let us?
