Great news, Tea Party Patriots!! This is the first step in removing the choke-hold national/international labor unions have on Florida's education system and on Florida taxpayers. There are more legislative bills related to public employees yet to be passed in this legislative session. The greater problems of labor unions' adverse impact on Florida taxpayers and their taking so much money out of Florida's economy are yet to be addressed and solved. Hopefully, we can get a petition initative completed to repeal the existing Amendment in Florida's Constitution protecting unions' rights to collective bargaining in time to get a proposed Amendment on the general election ballot in 2012. This would take a huge effort on all our parts, and that of others around the state, but it is very necessary and would set Florida on the road to economic recovery and job growth. I have researched what will be necessary for us to do and will be posting that on a new blog in the next day or so. Other organizations and individuals around the state will also, hopefully, get involved and help.
A big THANKS should go to the Republicans serving in the Florida Legislature and to our very special new Governor, Rick Scott!!!
Here is the article bearing the good news:
"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida lawmakers gave final legislative approval Wednesday to a bill aimed at replacing teacher tenure with a merit-based system, in the latest clash between a U.S. state government and public employee unions. By an 80-39 vote, the Florida House approved largely along party lines a Republican-backed measure that would decide teacher pay according to a yet-to-be determined measure of student performance on standardized tests along with other criteria determined by local school boards...
The measure has pitted the new Republican governor, Rick Scott, and the Republican-led Legislature against the state's largest teachers' union. Last year, Scott's Republican predecessor, Charlie Crist, then an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate, vetoed a similar bill. Efforts by various budget-strapped states to rein in the power of public sector unions have ignited a national struggle...
"This bill is going to improve our system to the benefit of our students," Scott told reporters. "We will make sure the best teachers stick around, that we retain them, we train them and we'll find the money to make sure they are paid fairly."
Critics argue the move is another attempt to break the union under the guise of education reform. Democratic state Representative Elaine Schwartz said, "So-called 'merit pay' is just a euphemism for the nationwide attempt to kill unions, taking away the core job security and benefits that can be negotiated for members."

J.R.,
IF unrest was resolved and our country became united as one, and this progressive liberal move to create race warfare and class warfare ended, the hate and fear mongering ended people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Bill Mathers, Louis Farrakhan and others like them would not have a way to make a living. Each one of those people and the progressive liberals have tried to pervert our incredible government documents created by our founding fathers based on history, principles, values and religion by distorting and manipulating words and facts and our very history.
I wish that Martin Luther King Jr. could rise from the dead for a day and tell each and everyone of them publicly, that they are NOT even close to his values and principles.
Thanks, J.L., for posting both the quote and the video. I'm with Thomas Jefferson and that quote describes exactly what organized national and international labor unions are doing all over this country, I support National Right to Work and get an e-mail update from Mark Mix every day, but had not viewed this excellent video until just now. When they send me a petition to sign, I gladly sign it and e-mail it to others and ask them to do the same. Thank goodness NRTW and Mark Mix have been so successful in their efforts, but there's still a long way to go.
There are still four more public employee union-related bills yet to be passed in the FL legislature this session. The session just started and lasts 60 days. I expect the four bills will pass and be signed into law like the first one was. But, we still need to do a Petition Iniative statewide to repeal the existing union-protecting Amendment in the Florida Constitution. It's unconstitutional and it's protecting unions' right to take enormous amounts of dues money out of Florida's economy, in addition to other adverse financial impacts on Florida taxpayers. The very idea that unions have a right to indirectly tax citizens of any state is absolutely ridiculous. And, now we have Jessee Jackson jumping in front of every available news videocam attempting to piggy-back onto the civil rights movement and proclaim that collective bargaining is a "civil right." With any luck, that was just a fleeting new example of his endless quest for yet one more 15 minutes of fame.
J.R.,

Check out this video, great organization:
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
