It was reported today on a web site called Shark Tank (http://shark-tank.net/2011/04/05/13246/) in an article titled “FL Senate Caves on Immigration Bill” that the enforcement oriented Senate Bill 2040, “Unauthorized Immigrants”, has been stripped of effective enforcement provisions such as requiring E-Verify. Please take a moment and read the article. If it is true, this is very disturbing. Florida needs a strong immigration law. I request that you contact members of the Judiciary Committee, your state Senator, your state House member (House bill is H 0961) and the Governor and insist that the demand a strongly worded bill. Here is what I sent each of them today:

“It was reported today on a web site called Shark Tank (“FL Senate Caves on Immigration Bill”) that the enforcement oriented Senate Bill 2040 has been stripped of effective enforcement provisions such as requiring E-Verify. If true, this is very disturbing. Florida needs a strong immigration law. You need to support strengthening this bill and insist that key enforcement provisions be restored. As my Senator, I strongly urge you to adamantly oppose a weak bill. I’m instructing my House member to adamantly oppose a weak bill. I’m instructing Governor Scott to veto anything less than strong, pro active immigration control legislation.

More and more American Citizens who immigrated to this country legally are joining other responsible citizens in demanding stronger immigration laws. Why? Because they understand the issue has nothing to do with racism or profiling. Those are excuses. They understand that it is about preserving the strong, vibrant America that we all love.

I look forward to hearing of your leadership in making this bill an effective tool for immigration enforcement.”

While you are at it, please look up a bill called “Post Secondary Student Fees” (SB 318, H 0055) on the Florida House and Senate websites.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but this bill appears to give privileges to illegal immigrants or the children of illegal immigrants. This bill has cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee with support from no less than John Thrasher!!! I don’t understand why anyone would support any measure that would incentivize illegal immigration. This has to stop!

I request that you contact members of the Judiciary Committee, your state Senator, your state House member and the Governor and insist that if SB 318 or H 0055 provides any benefit for an illegal alien, they must be scrapped.
