Interesting as the No Child Left Behind was a move back to phonics (and was made by Bush who was afraid to call it what it was for fear it would be seen as a conservative move and bring down the rath of our oh so liberal teachers).  This program teaches children to read using phonics and really is invaluable if we want young people who can actually read.  The liberal method that has been used the last 40 years has been an abyssmal failure.  Interesting article as Obama is apparantly gutting the program, and it really would have helped children learn to read by a tried and true method..............maybe he realized it was a good move and heavens he wouldn't want to do anything that might help make things better.................(personal opinion though)
