Below is Florida's U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio's response to my letter to him objecting to high speed rail being forced on Florida taxpayers.  Sen. Bill Nelson did not respond to my letter to him on this topic.

"Dear Ms. Cottingham,

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office regarding your concerns about high-speed rail in Florida. As your Senator, I am working tirelessly for the people of Florida to make sure that their voices are heard in Washington, D.C.

While we need to continue to improve our transportation system to meet the needs of our citizens, the high speed rail system will cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. We cannot continue fiscal instability and spend recklessly as a nation and that is why I do not support the high speed rail program.
I applaud Governor Scott's decision to decline federal assistance for high speed rail. Our Governor understands the importance of fiscal restraint, and the harmful effects of runaway federal spending.

Your input on this issue is important to me; it is an honor and a privilege to serve as your United States Senator. I take great pride in this responsibility and will work every day to serve the needs of our state and better the lives of all Floridians. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out to our office. Please do not hesitate to contact us in the future if you have further concerns."

Thank you again for posting your view. It reminded me that they all use the same talking points. Thank goodness you can find them all over the internet even at Organizing for America.org.

Note to all of FCTP's patriotic and loyal members: 

Negative and provocative statements, like the repetitious ones of Mr. Stephenson below, are deliberately designed to undermine and denigrate the mission and goals of FCTP members and the Tea Party movement, pull all of us off message, change the subject, and distort positive, instructive, and helpful comments posted by responsible, honest and dedicated members of First Coast Tea Party. 

Responding to needling, goading, and agitating comments simply encourages more of the same.  It is important to choose to not respond to intentionally negative discourse.  Respond to, reinforce, and advance positive discourse instead.  It's the negative "more of the same" that we are working to get rid of everywhere, including at all levels of government.  Please do not respond to or reinforce anything that steps on our message and detracts from legitimate postings and all the sincere hard work that is done in this organization.  Our mission and message are clear... and must be kept that way.

You're very welcome, J.L!  Thank you for your follow-up with a clear and accurate message that includes legitimate and instructive information that benefits all of us.  I, too, mistook such postings as a need for help and information, but was very quickly reminded of the concept of "biting the hand that feeds you" and disabused myself of any urge to engage in a spitting contest with someone I recognized to be a liberal agitator.  Directly engaging in an attempt to undo the conditioning of a person in whom the progressive-socialist ideology is instilled---and arguing with or debating them---is an exercise in futility. We can only lead by example and hope that a lightbulb will come on in their minds at some point in time and erase the darkness.  But, I won't be holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

You're so right in placing such high value on seeking the truth.  Without it, where are we, really?  We can't always be right and perfect in everything we say and do, and I know I'm not, but we can certainly be caught trying our level best.  And, we can be a beacon out there to expose false information that we come across.

I appreciate your support, as well as your sharing your knowledge and research and pointing us in the right direction for further inquiry.  Do continue it.

Thank you J.R. for posting this, i finally figured it out. I was just trying to be helpful but now i can see clearly that these people like to call people names, twist facts up, make accusations, drum up negativism, to try to start a pointless argument, because they have no values or principles and can not be truthful or deal with the facts, typical progressive liberals.

 

It is ALL in their talking points, just web search Progressive liberal talking points, but DO NOT use GOOGLE or BING they are in bed with the progressives, i accidentally used both of them, the other day when Michelle Bachmann found the 105 plus billion hidden in the Health Care Reform Bill by Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama, that was put into appropriations without going through the proper steps to do so, they circumvented it and broke the law and even the ethic rules and abuse of power rules in the Legislative branch, in NOT telling Congress or the American people, in other words they LIED and in my opinion should be kicked out of office for stooping so low and being so unethical and deceitful. When Michelle Bachmann's name came up, i could not believe the untruthful things, and nasty comments all from progressive liberal sites. These people have no honor what so ever will stoop so low to deceive the American people to push their agenda down our throats again, from the book of their master: "... we will lie, cheat and steal, because the ends justifies the means..." or something like that.

 

Thank goodness more and more people in America are realizing this. They are getting easier and easier to spot which is great when you are trying vet a candidate and figure out if they share your principles and values and will up hold the constitution and if they are lying or telling the truth.

 

We all should be seeking the truth and facts and insist our elected representatives at all levels do the same and hold to a much higher standard than the people before them. People prefer the truth and the facts not lies. That is why tyranny, socialism, communism, marxism always fail.

 

Thank goodness there is this wonderful movement through out our country and it is growing daily.

FYI: Mid-afternoon yesterday at the Capitol building in Tallahassee, Tony Sleiman said he had just seen Billie at the hospital and her condition had improved  Carole McManus and LeAnne King also visited Billie at the hospital. I know she was having a horrible time with allergies on Monday when I spoke with her on the phone and I could hear in her voice the difficulty she was having. Please keep Billie in your prayers.

There is in all of us a strong disposition to believe that anything lawful is also legitimate. This belief is so widespread that many persons have erroneously held that things are "just" because law makes them so. Thus, in order to make plunder appear just and sacred to many consciences, it is only necessary for the law to decree and sanction it. Taxes, regulation, and monopoly find defenders not only among those who profit from them but also among those who suffer from them. As long as it is admitted that the law may be diverted from its true purpose -- that it may violate property instead of protecting it -- then everyone will want to participate in making the law, either to protect himself against plunder or to use it for plunder. Political questions will always be prejudicial, dominant, and all-absorbing. There will be fighting at the door of the Legislative Palace, and the struggle within will be no less furious. To know this, it is hardly necessary to examine what transpires in the legislatures; merely to understand the issue is to know the answer. To see society for what it truly is and not what your ideology would make of it, you would have to conclude that the FairTax as written should be the law. Now this must be said: When justice is organized by law -- that is, by force -- this excludes the idea of using law (force) to organize any human activity whatever, whether it be labor, charity, agriculture, commerce, industry, education, art, or religion. The organizing by law of any one of these would inevitably destroy the essential organization -- justice. For truly, how can we imagine force being used against the liberty of citizens without it also being used against justice, and thus acting against its proper purpose? Happy April 15th everybody!
