I was invited to speak at the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives Monday night.  It was a memory I will forever cherish and am thankful for the opportunity.

 

Michelle Bachmann reached out and asked three tea party leaders to speak on behalf of the Tea Party Movement.  Her goal was to get our input on the Debt Ceiling.  (Answer:  Do not raise the Debt Ceiling.)  The room was filled with new and more seasoned representatives who felt they identified as a tea party member. 

 

I’m sorry to say but my Representative, Ander Crenshaw, did not show up nor did anyone from the Northeast Florida area, including Rep.  John Mica who I had breakfast with the next morning for a discussion on High Speed Rail.

 

Our new and outspoken Rep. Allen West was there and we had a meeting with him earlier in the day in his office.  Let me say this about Rep. West – “Thank God he is there!  What a man of character and courage and he is certainly a leader!”  (We’re talking to him about showing up for a gig in North Florida in the near future so stay tuned on that one!)

 

The two days in DC were exhausting and enlightening.  My encounters went like this:

  • Rep. Allen West – A gift from God sent to the front line in DC!  He said:  “Keep the Tea Party awake.  This place is crazy.  We must control the House in 2012 and take back the Senate too.  If we don’t have a good candidate to run against Obama, then we can control thorough the power of Congress.”
  • Senator Marco Rubio – Met with him for a few minutes as he was rushing out the door.  He was smiling and confident.  He said:  “This place is more screwed up than I could have imagined.  Keep up the good work with the Tea Party, we need you guys.”
  • Rep. Michelle Bachmann – As she led her peers in the House Tea Party Caucus event, all she could focus on was this question:  “What do the Tea Party members think about the debt ceiling?”  That was the question of the night and although those in the room wanted to speak, she kept drawing the conversation back to us – the tea party members – for our input.  She told the audience:  “We are here to listen to them.  That’s why they are here.” 
  • Rep. John Mica – Enjoy meeting Rep. Mica for breakfast and discussion that followed.  He is very smart about transportation issues in America and how money is generated for that purpose.  He said:  “18.4 cents per gallon of gas sold generates about $30 billion per year in the Highway and Transportation Trust Fund.  80% is used for highways and 20% for transit.  If Florida doesn’t take the money for High Speed Rail (which he said is not really high speed and the messaging is wrong(?) – Obama’s administration will take that money and use it somewhere else in a liberal state to help his campaign.”  About this time, my head spins backwards and I lose my breakfast!  “Playing with our money for political gain” ran through my head.  First things first – we could use that money to pay down the debt but no way will that happen.  Rep. Mica had more to say and has his own perspective after many years in the House.  We will work with his new Chief of Staff, Wiley Deck, to get him here for a face to face discussion on transportation dollars and the “not really high speed rail issue.”  We have a lot of questions and the communication coming from Rep. Mica’s office needs to be improved and he agreed it did.  Let’s make sure we keep on him about that communication flow and his attendance at a meeting with us in North Florida and all tea party leaders across the state.  (More to come on this one – soon!)

My overall observation was this: 

  • We have some good leaders and we need A LOT MORE of them in Congress.  2012 is our time to focus on this critical issue.  The left is already funding campaigns for progressives and they once again are ahead of us in that deal.  They are also training Summer Interns on College campuses to work towards the 2012 election!  What are we doing?  Where is our funding coming from?  How will we keep our members engaged without deep pocket funding that the left has?  How can we educate those who are paid to canvas neighborhoods and sign up people for the progressive movement?
  • The Tea Party leaders in this country must start to talk to each other in a more robust fashion while focusing on 2012 results.  We have leaders of individual groups doing a great job across this country and they are doing fantastic work to keep the movement alive and awake.  Our focus should now be on leading our local members to find qualified conservative candidates in our own districts.  Encourage them to run for the House or the Senate and back them with your time, talents and resources.   Start a team in your local tea party group that will focus on this one thing and one thing only.  We need leadership at the local level and leaders working together in every state to keep their state awake to conservative values.  Florida is a targeted state by the left so we have work to do.  We presently have a great group of people leading tea parties in Florida and we talk every day about issues.  This group needs to grow and each tea party group needs to grow.  Let’s get it done and start our focus on 2012 now! Remember, “Without a leader, the people perish.”  Let’s go find our leaders – forge ahead!
  • Communication is lacking between those in DC and We the People.  I had the pleasure of sitting with all these people in DC and listened to their concerns.  Not all of us can do that.  I encouraged them to find better ways to get their message out and to open communicate with their local constituents.  Communication is key to good leadership and they need to focus on that – BIG TIME.  Here was one of my coaching moments with a few of our leaders in DC:  “Without communication, people make up stuff and fill the void.  If you do not get your message out to us, we will make it for you and that’s not pretty.  Keep us informed.  Get back into your districts.  Tell us all the news – the good, the bad and the ugly.  We can take it.  We are smart people and we know more than you on some of these issues because we have more time to research than you do.”  Let’s hope they listened and if they didn’t – let’s find some who will!

The two days were worth the time and the efforts walking those long hallways in high heels for the sake of Liberty!  Now we must get to work and it must start today.  November 2012 is only 19 months away and it is time to find our new leaders to run against the RINOs and root out the Progressives.  Anyone up for the job?

 

BY THE WAY – We are now heading to Tally next week to meet with our leaders.  March 8 is our day in Tally and we hope you will make plans to attend.  If you are coming from Jacksonville, we have a free bus awaiting you for the trip up and back on the same day – March 8.  On the schedule will be meetings with our legislators, a rally at noon on the steps of the Capitol with some great speakers, and a press conference at 4:00 announcing the new Tea Party Caucus in Tallahassee led by Rep. Mike Weinstein from Jacksonville.  We will be a part of setting up this Tea Party Caucus and developing the agendas as they move forward with this new initiative.  Contact our office at (904) 683-3945 to reserve a seat on the bus.

 

And another note:  Today, March 2, at 4:30 we will announce the First Coast Tea Party endorsements of local candidates for city council and the mayor’s race.  We ask for your prayers and support as we make these announcements. 

 

Continue to stay focused, stay awake and stay the course.  Tell your friends to join our movement and get involved in securing freedom and liberty for all.  Our country needs you. 

 

P.S.  – Find attached a poster we handed out at the Caucus.  Print one for yourself and post it on your wall.  These people showed up way before any others across this globe showed up in their city squares.  The media never spoke about that day and the numbers that came to DC.  And guess what happened on that day – no one got hurt, the place was clean as a whistle when we left and no media personnel were attacked.  America was the first to stand for freedom and why didn’t the media report about that?  Look for the First Coast Tea Party in the crowd.  We were there and we plan to be a part of the next March on DC in November 2012 when we take back Congress and hopefully the White House!

Tamara, does your neighbor get more exemptions, senior, handicap? Go look at Zillow.com and you can see what they put your home value down. Our home is actually valued more with the city than it is at zillow and there are several homes that were foreclosed on in our neighborhood that are just sitting there. 

 

Medicare, is paid into by people and the index has not been adjusted because of political backfire from the public. Also keep in mind our health care costs started going UP when the federal government created the medicaid program and they have systematically over the years pay less and less to Doctors and Medical facilities each year passing the costs on to the public. Also the federal government created HMOs PPOs el etc., putting another blocked between the patient doctor relationship further driving up costs. Just this year our insurance coverage has gone down because NOW because of this wonderful Health Care Reform bill, we NOW have a middle person in between us and the insurance company (same insurance company) that we have to pay to oversee our health care. Instead of having almost 80% coverage, we now get to pay the FIRST $10,000.00 on each patient on health care, then the insurance kicks in. The previous policy was discontinued because NOW the company that my husband works with has to HAVE the same exact policy for ALL workers, from the top down. Keep in mind that the White House has issued to date OVER 915 waivers mostly to unions so that they do NOT have to participate in this bill, even though the unions pushed for it.

Real eye opener. Then ask yourself WHY was this bill passed in a unpartisan way, over the objections of the majority of Americans, while back room deals and closed door negotiations were being made with people (UNIONS) who were NOT elected to the peoples' seats?

 

Word from the Capital and i betcha' Billie and all heard it while they were in D.C. is that the open way that the House is being ran compared to Pelosi's four year rain is positive, more relax and many Congressional members bipartisan, feel their voice is being heard, unlike the closed door, in the dark of the night, new rules, shut out feel that was practiced from 2007 to 2010.

 

Social Security has OVER 2.5 TRILLION IOUs, again this program was paid into by people but the fund was raided by Congress, for other  projects, for people who did not pay into it. We read a comment in RANTS and RAVEs in the Florida Times Union that stated the 2.5 Trillion is in U.S. Bonds. From what we have read, it is not, just IOU's written by Congressional members who used the funds in their own projects.

 

We need to get a handle on our federal government, we need to get it back to a government BY, OF and FOR THE PEOPLE. We need to do the same at state level and local level.

These solutions have been up for several years even when the Progressive Liberal Democratic Leadership and majority of Pelosi, Reid and President Obama kept saying to the media, they have no new ideas to bring to the table. Personally i like their new ideas better than what the Progressive Liberal leadership and majority RAMMED through Congress agains the majority of what the American people wanted.

 

Everything from the bottom to the top needs to be looked at and there are so many duplicate programs that Senator Coburn pointed out. BUT, we need action, now. 

 

Another question needs to be asked WHY did Pelosi, Reid and President Obama not pass a budget in September 2010? Americans are not stupid. Seek the  facts and the truth and demand that your elected representatives at ALL levels serving in the peoples' seats give it.

In my humble opinion, what does the TeaParTy stand for? Freedom, liberty, our incredible founding fathers' documents: Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution and the American Dream from the Declaration of Independence:

 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..."

Billie, i completely agree with your statements.  However, this is where I take issue with FCTP at times:  while we talk openly about prayer in school, Muslims in our midst, illegal immigration, etc., we do not discuss (seriously, that is), our financial crisis, the cause and things we should be fighting for.  I don't really care if state workers get pensions and benefits.  I just don't.  As I've said before, I guess because I have family members who are union, public and private, I don't see the evil in it.  I may be wrong, but to me, that is not the big problem.  Why aren't we talking about a repeal of save our homes.  That is complete wealth re-distribution.  I pay 3 times the property tax that my neighbor does for no other reason than they have lived in their house for 30 years, and I have lived in mine for seven.  Our assessed property value is the same!!  Someone explain why this is okay!  Someone explain why no one speaks about the debacle that is Medicare and Medicaid, the two programs that are bankrupting this country!  Look, I get it that most FCTP members are recipients of Medicare, but where is the shared sacrifice?  We can't afford it anymore!    Isn't that what we are telling teachers and state workers?

John:  Where do you come off calling us these names.  I for one have never met a Koch brother.  I have met a lot of business owners who set up their own businesses so they could be free to build a business and dream a dream.  Capitalism is the basis of a great economy and you sound like someone who hates those who are successful.  Not everyone can be rich.  Not everyone can drive a Porsche.  Those who work hard and can afford to buy one and drive it - more power to them.  It is not my job to ensure that everyone gets to drive a Porsche.  That is the essence of the tea party movement.  We want people to earn their keep and when they are down on their luck, we will be there to give them a hand.  If they are lazy - NO WAY.  If they are uneducated, they can find a way to get educated.  There are lots of ways to do that and many people have done it on their own.  I came from a very poor upbringing and no one handed me a thing.  I worked hard for everything I have and I will not be ridiculed for expecting others to do the same.  yes, John, that is how tea party people think and if you don't like it - go find a progessive site to comment on and have fun.

Well, John Stephenson, now you've tipped your hand and stated your firm belief in forced unionism and forced "spreading of the wealth"...  somebody else's earned wealth.  Teachers, firefighters, police personnel and military personnel always have received, and will continue to receive their earned income for the work they do.  They can do all of these things without national/international labor unions scabbing off of them to support themselves and Democrats.  Absent parasitic unions, state governments at all levels could benefit from not having to pay for providing administrative work of collecting dues from public employees... dues money that is then forked over to greedy, powerful labor unions, thereby sucking an enormous further amount of money out of the states' economies.  As a result, the taxpayers of those states get stuck with the bill.  Labor unions in this day and time serve no useful purpose in the public sector.  The union dues serve as an indirect tax on the labor of public employees, as well as an indirect tax on all other taxpayers in states where collective bargaining is allowed and those dues go out of state to unions whose sole purpose is to get their hands on as much of the taxpayers' money as possible---by way of a huge transfer of wealth out of public employees' pockets and out of the pockets of taxpayers in the states, who then also have to pay higher property taxes, licensing fees and other costs that would not be necessary if that money stayed in the state and the unions were no longer allowed to feed at the public trough.  The more you write, Stephenson, the more you trash your own weak arguments.

You are WeLCOMe J.R.,  There is much more to add to that list, i just did not want to overwhelm anyone. I was taught to always seek the truth and facts, to question everything you see, read or hear.

 

Dear John, my brother was a firefighter, a captain, my father in law and he worked with the city, i have had many relatives in politics, military, all cross sections like many other Americans and i have worked in the school system, with quiet a few decades of volunteering, helping teachers to teach, and to help them with their resources. Interesting to note, the problem parents that i met were actually die-hard union members who thought they were entitled to everything, they did not believe in paying "fair share" in their children's activities they believed it was their right because they paid their taxes and worked in the system. My husband was a union member for many years, we have seen both sides of the coin, and have lived it. We are fed up with the blame game in politics and are working hard to keep our very freedoms as outlined in our Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution and the argument for it in the Federalist Papers. Our founding fathers, created our U.S. Constitution by looking back in history at failed governments, failed monarchies, failed democracies, that is why the created a Republic not a Democracy.

 

I never realized what a incredible document our U.S. Constitution is and have been very touched by the many people that i have corresponded with over the past few years that see the danger in global statism/socialism and they are watching our country and praying that we keep the American Dream alive and well, not the one that is promoted by Van Jones, but the one that was created by our founding fathers.... because our Dream is the world's dream to have freedoms and liberties not to be ruled by tyranny... one Canadian website has this statement:

Knowledge is power and it is being prove time after time the more that unions and the federal government are controlling our public education system, the quality has gone downhill. Look at what unions have done to our industries and auto companies. After witnessing what happened in Madison, Wisconsin, it does not take a nuclear scientist to figure out what the problem is, nor does it take one to figure out what happened to our economy is the result of the Progressive Liberal Leadership and majority since the 2006 elections that control our Congress. In just less than four years they drove our debt over 5 TRILLION dollars. They purposely did not pass a budget in September 2010.

 

Those are the facts.

Great reading list, J.L Gawlik!  You've provided a valuable resource for all Tea Party Patriots, many of whom will likely utilize it.  Unfortunately, some people's minds are so closed that they tend to find well-researched conservative writings radioactive and their ideology won't allow them to use them as a learning tool to expand their knowledge base. But, there's always hope some will.

Amazing union membership has fallen to a record low, people are now aware that there are laws that protect them and they can actually do a lot better in their careers by not being a union member, but by being paid for their individual merit and hard work, not in collective bargaining which is just a form of socialism of not being a individual.

 

"Despite what some among us would like to believe it is not because of our 
creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not 
because we care about children and it is not because we have a vision of a 
great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective 
advocates because we have power." statement from retiring NEA lawyer Bob 
Chanin.

It is not about quality education, it is not even about the children.

It is about POWER. 

Even Thomas Jefferson thought unions taking over was wrong:

Americans are waking up and questioning what is being said and what is the 
truth just  as Thomas Jefferson stated many years ago:

"To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of 
opinions which he disbelieves is sinful and tyrannical."

That, in essence, is what the Right to Work principle -- That no worker 
should be forced to join or pay dues to a union as a condition of 
employment -- is all about. Forced unionism denies hardworking Americans 
the right to refrain from financially supporting organizations they oppose.

 

Interesting to note also, at the NEA over at their site: http://www.nea.org/  have Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals" on their recommended reading list. 

 

Right now TeaParty members are in Madison, WI trying to clean up the trashing of their Capital, many wonderful thoughtful union protesters used permanent markers writing messages on the walls as well as leaving their trash behind and goodness knows what else... Great Americans.

Mr. Stephenson, you have just confessed your allegiance to organized labor, not the public employees whom the unions manipulate and use in order to siphon vast amounts of money out of the economy of many states and place it in service to, and in support of national/international labor unions' and the Democrats'/DNC's perpetual and circular symbiotic relationship that they depend on to assure continuation of their mutual power, wealth and control in this country.  Their noses are now out of joint because they see that power, wealth and control continue its slippage, hence their current national roar to intimidate and force their way back into control. 

Go home to your socialist-progressive brothers and sisters and worship with them at the feet of their idol, Saul Alinsky, while holding your copy of "Rules for Radicals" held high.

In my opinion socialists, communists, marxists, progressive liberals are demons, they do not believe in capitalism, freedoms or liberties or our U.S. Constitution it goes against their ideologue.

 

If our federal government was being run as it was originally intended, any American can succeed in life. It is up to them. That is why people risks their lives just to get here. We are the only government to ever be created with complete freedom, all other countries evolved from tyranny, monarchy, dictatorship, etc.. That is probably WHY other countries can not figure out how or why we will react completely opposite to things that happen in our country or to our country. They just do not understand our way of thinking. Simply because they have never experienced true liberty and freedoms, thanks to our founding fathers and U.S. Constitution and other incredible documents.

 

Apparently you have never enjoyed the freedoms or liberties as outlined in our U.S. Constitution and can not comprehend how many Americans feel. These are just my thoughts. Perhaps the above reading list will help.
