The First Coast Tea Party and The Jacksonville Elections.

Eight months ago The First Coast Tea Party stumbled and fumbled through their first interaction with the Jacksonville City Council in an attempt to stop a second 9% tax rate hike in two years. It was initiated with a rally in front of City Hall. The Tea Party was told they are too late to stop the tax increase and it was passed with a .5% decrease at the September 28th meeting of the council. There were four or five television stations at that rally in Heming Plaza with news crews interviewing rally attendees. I answered a few questions and made a few comments on the tax subject. The interviewer’s parting question was on the line of “What happens if the council passes the tax increase?” (I forget the exact exchange and I didn’t DVR the news cast). I do remember that I replied “We will see at the next city election”.

After the elections the president of the Jacksonville City Council is voted out of his District 6 council seat and the body of the City Council has many more conservative faces in it. The Times Union says the biggest loser in this election was the Tea Party. This statement is made to vastly diminished subscribers. I quit the paper many years ago because of its decidedly liberal reporting and blindness to reality. The Tea Party movement was initiated on national tax issues two years ago. The First Coast Tea party is just getting organized on local issues. Judging by the Times Union posts attacking and demeaning the Tea Party, the progressives are afraid of us.

I was raised Catholic and I firmly believe everything I have been taught until the 80’s when Saul Alinskiy’s book got major circulation. “Turn the other cheek” will just get you “b...h slapped anew”. Saul Alinsky has changed the dynamics of human interaction in America. Another man’s word is “just words” unlike the days of our fathers when a man would stand behind his word, even in court of law. If you didn’t vote because you thought all politicians were alike, you got “b…h slapped anew”. I “hope” you “change”.

Eric,

It sounds like we might have similar goals. There is a brown bag group organizing Thursday from 12-1 at Tea Party HQ. I am retired. Would you be able to meet there and we can then continue sharing our thoughts after 1 PM?

Hi John,

I wasn't really proposing a war of words, I meant this as more of a tongue -in-cheek thing. While the subject is a very serious one, I find that if I can't laugh at them every once in a while, they only serve to drive up my blood pressure. And, what can I say, I find irony somewhat amusing...With regards to your overall point, When people start complaining about the Obama administration, and whether or not Obama is eligible, etc etc, I have to come back to the logical starting point that the bigger issue is that like it or not there were sufficient numbers of gullible and/or worse folks who turned out last presidential election cycle and voted him into office. That concerns me more than most of the other issues being debated with respect to his administration. We have to do something to start dragging folks screaming and kicking back to reality. It isn't going to be easy...

Hi Eric,

I don't intend to get into a war of words with the liberals/progressives. It'd be a waste of energy and bandwidth. My purpose for introducing the concept of turning the other cheek was to fire up the eligible voters that didn't come to the voting booth. Whatever their reason for staying away, it subjects them to being slapped around from now until the next election and nobody will come to their rescue. I HOPE they CHANGE.

I used to turn the other cheek, but I ran out of them a long time ago. I say that we fire the progressive b@$turds each and every one, but only because tar and feather are not in vogue any longer. If Alinsky's disciples keep gaining ground, a "tea party" won't be sufficient, we will need to form a "jingo" party just to be on the safe side...

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
