THE TIMES UNION DOES IT AGAIN: SUPPORTS THE OPPOSITE OF WE THE PEOPLE

In today’s Sunday edition of the Times Union, they printed their endorsements for the local races.  http://jacksonville.com/opinion/editorials/2011-03-20/story/our-end...

We were not surprised to see they endorsed Audrey Moran for Mayor.  Audrey chose NOT to participate in the tea party vetting process.  She did not return our questionnaires; she did not meet with our leadership council for a one on one video interview; she did not attend the Mayoral Town Hall; nor did she post any of her information on our website.

In other words, Audrey Moran (R) shunned the people of the tea party movement and said our voices did not matter.  Will she do this if she is elected our Mayor?  Tigers don’t change their stripes…do they?

We give credit to Mike Hogan (R), Rick Mullaney (R), Warren Lee (D) and Steve Irvine (I) – all who participated in the FCTP process.  Alvin Brown (D) also chose not to engage with the Tea Party – a missed opportunity for him.

This is not the first time the Tea Party Movement has been on opposite sides where our endorsements are concerned.  They wrote as many great articles about Alex Sink as they could find all the while slamming Rick Scott.  In the primary, Bill McCollum was given favorable articles while the normal “let’s get Rick” articles were published.  Guess who won:  Rick Scott, the Tea Party favorite.

The newspaper industry is hurting and they are struggling to find a way to reach out to readers.  They believe social media might help their cause and they are putting forth the efforts to build their news on that platform.  The real issue is this:  They are out of touch with the views of most of the people.  Most of us – especially in Jacksonville – are not far left liberals.  Yet if a visitor picked up our paper and read the headlines, they would think we were.  The TU has many fine reporters and some of them are fair and report the news based on facts and not their own personal opinions.  We salute them for that and ask them to continue to be true to the principles of great journalism.

It’s time for the TU to re-evaluate its mission and to reconnect with the people of North Florida.  If they did that, they would find their readership would improve, their revenues would sky rocket and they could retain their staff -- thereby saving jobs which NE Florida desperately needs.

Tuesday is Election Day.  Whoever your candidate might be – we encourage you to VOTE.  This is one piece of freedom that hasn’t been taken from you yet.  If you have time, call your friends and gather together on the side of the road holding signs for your candidates.  Wave and send a thumb up even if someone sends you a middle finger.  Smile and wave – kill them with kindness – it really irritates them when you do that!  Take a flip camera with you and make sure your signs are respectful.

After you vote, post a picture on Facebook and on our website showing your I VOTED sticker proudly.

Election Night:  Contact your favorite candidate and find out where they will be watching the returns.  Join them and be ready to pat them on the pat for a job well done if they don’t win or a high five if they do.

The First Coast Tea Party has published our endorsements on our community site at:  www.fctpcommunity.org.  We hope you will check them out, watch the video interviews, read the questionnaires and make your decisions after you do.  You still have time between now and Tuesday to become well informed on all the candidates who chose to participate in our process.

Voting is VERY important.  If you don’t believe us, believe Terry Tate.  See his message here:

There r many great sites that give u "how they voted" scorecards.  Those newbies r the ones to invite to a meet the candidates Tea Party.  Pin them down with multiple questions on the same subject, it is easy to sort them out this way.

That is why I cancelled my subscription years ago.

There are 2 ways to vote.  At the polls and with your feet/money.  If everyone cancels their

TU subscription they will get the message and like newspapers all over the country they will

go broke and out of business.  I for one will have no sympathy for those who lose their jobs.

They spewed slanted, spun and bias news reports on everything but the box score.  Question??

Were you upset when Tokyo Rose was taken/driven off the air after WW II ?

I've got a friend who does work for TU. They treat her like an employee (illegal as heck) and they do not treat her well. I have another friend who does work for a different paper in another county and ditto for her. I guess most of the papers contract out everything they can to avoid benefit responsibilities. I know the laws concerning contractors and TU is in violation of same by "assigning" jobs. I wonder what other laws they might be on the wrong side of...

Someone mentioned Frank Denton earlier, and I think it is important to note that he was Editor at the Wisconsin State Journal. Surprise, surprise!  I wonder if he recently went to Madison to help his union buddies deface the capital building and send death threats to the Republicans.

The TU needs to change direction and become a reputable newspaper, but I don't want to cancel my subscription because of the good individuals that I am sure are working there!

Time to find out "Who owns TU?". No, I'm not talking about the owners name but just like certain members of Congress vote in accordance with lobbyists who are owned by corporations, you can say that Corporation X owns Congressperson Y.

Does TU hold stockholders meetings or Proxy meetings? How much is a share of stock? Pretty cheap now I bet. What would happen if we all brought one share and showed up in mass for the next Proxy meeting and vote resoundingly NO or whatever they throw out there.

As a rule nobody shows up for Proxy Meetings so they are held in a small to modest sized hotel meeting room or something. Imagine if 1000 showed up for the meeting in room that accommodates 50 people? Imagine how tiny and overwhelmed the powers that be would feel?

As we are finding out, politicians only almost every level are "bought and sold". Question begs: "who owns TU?" Then: "Well, then who owns them"? Follow the money trail.

Courtesy to Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" Proxy Tactic because we can play that game too!

Valerie, that is where you have to do your own investigation into the content of their character, who they support, who they hang out with, again ACTIONS SPEAK A LOT LOUDER THAN WORDS. Thank goodness for the Tea Party and groups like it now, in helping to vet out false representation and people who claim they are something they are not. Trust your instincts also, there is something that bothers me about Mullaney, and Moran, and i will trust my instincts on that. I felt the same way when i voted for Clinton and Bill Nelson. The older that i have gotten the more i trust my intuition, the more you use it, the more you hone it, we all have it for a good reason, survival.

Look at what happened to the Miami Mayor last week, he was recalled and voted out of office. People have the power to hold the candidates and those who they elect to their campaign promises, their feet to the fire, they just have to get together and act on it.

I remember when John Peyton was elected Mayor, he and several council members broke the Sunshine Law, they were investigated and then declared it was not their fault which i disagreed with, each candidate running for office should know the U.S. Constitution, the State Constitution, the city Charter/constitution, the rules and regulations of the state and the city, period. That is what they are being paid for and in this day and age of computers and access to information, it should NOT be an excuse not to know. They all should held be accountable for their actions, just like we are in our everyday lives.

I'm afraid many politicians these days are just telling "tea partiers" what they want to hear in hopes of gaining votes, rather than expressing their true values. Past politicians can be followed by their previous track records. New up-and-coming politicians are more difficult, because there is nothing concrete to judge them by. Also, we need to be careful of picking candidates based on third-party accounts. I've seen a couple of situations this past week where people spoke badly of a candidate and I knew personally that they were way off base in their assessment of the person.

I use them as a guide who not to vote for.

The negative thing about Mullaney is that city pension that he helped write up. People need to be invested and pay into their own pensions, period, especially within government like the private sector, other wise our total budget is going to be mostly pensions, benefits and government workers' salaries.

When the Florida TU keep saying that Sink was a fiscal conservative really was off base, she, her running mate and her husband have a progressive liberal track record. Also before the campaign, she stated over and over that she supported the Obama administration and his Health Care Reform bill.

I just wish people would tell the TRUTH and run on their principles, values and the content of their character instead of pandering for votes, the most dangerous kind of candidate.

We early voted....Yes  Juan Diaz. NOT Jack Webb either. Mullaney talks like a politician, a real fast talker.

He sounds good but he has been there for in the background for years... they'll say whatever we want to hear til then get in, and then they forget.

We think we can characterize Mike Hogan as walking softly and carrying a big stick. He went up against Mayor Peyton already... did a great job of cutting expenditures at the Tax Collecters office too.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
